On Thursday, it was announced that University of Georiga junior Bryan Kamau and sophomore Mary Terry have been named to the SEC Community Service Teams for track and field and cross country.
 
Kamau, a native of Snellville, Ga., has participated in a variety of community service opportunities during his time in Athens. The distance runner from Shiloh High School has escorted Special Olympic athletes to their fall prom and played baseball in Special Olympics annual game; delivered turkeys to families in need during the holiday season through the Athens Area Food Bank; helped kids at nearby Barrow Elementary do a walk-a-thon to raise money for their playground and with their Safe Routes To School program ensuring safety when they are walking to and from school; involved with the UGA Athletic Association’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC); helped provide an Angel Tree for families with an incarcerated parent; and collected toiletries for Project Safe, which helps battered women and kids.
 
 
Kamau concluded his 2017 campaign by finishing 27th in the 5000 meters at the NCAA East Prelims. He clocked UGA’s fifth-fastest 5000m time (14:01.65) in school history to score at this year’s SEC Outdoor Championships.
 
 

 
 
Terry, a Norcross, Ga., native, has also volunteered in a variety of ways since joining the Bulldogs. The high jumper from North Oconee High School has volunteered at Bigger Vision Homeless Shelter once a week; worked with disadvantaged kids at Rolling Ridge Apartments weekly; routinely helped out at the Bountiful Hills Assisted Living home; escorted during the Special Olympics prom and played in their baseball game; led a poetry program for an area middle school; served as an Executive Board Member for the Inspire UGA Day in area schools; and helped with UGA track and field’s service day in the community.
 
 
Terry wrapped up her outdoor season by clearing a personal-best high jump height of 5 feet, 8 ½ inches to tie for 15th at the NCAA East Prelims.
