Three out of four Georgia distance runners posted personal bests to highlight the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “I am very happy with how everyone competed today,” said Bulldog distance coach Patrick Cunniff. “All three long-distance kids ran lifetime bests and Christian Harrison was battling for the win all the way to the finish line in the 800. For Addy (Lippitt) to land in the all-time top-10 list in her very first 10K, and finish in the top five at a big meet like this is an incredible performance and points to a great future.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “Steven (Spevacek) and Marrion (Kalafut) ran tough, gritty races to grind out personal records and that toughness is a hallmark of this entire group. I am excited to see more great performances from the Bulldogs this weekend.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] Freshman Addy Lippitt ran her first 10,000-meter race for the Lady Bulldogs and finished with the 10th-best time in school history. Lippitt was the top finisher from the Southeastern Conference after clocking a 35:22.67 for fifth place overall.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Also in the 10,000, senior Marrion Kalafut registered a lifetime best of 35:54.60 to take 14th in her first race at this distance this season.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Junior Steven Spevacek concluded the night for the Bulldogs with a personal-best time in the 5000 for 12th place. Spevacek shaved half a second off his career best with a time of 14:25.29.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Junior Christian Harrison opened the second day of the Drake Relays for the Bulldogs with a runner-up finish in the 800. Harrison ran the second-fastest time of his UGA career with a 1:50.29.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Junior Chanice Porter starts the day for Georgia in the women’s long jump at 11 a.m. ET on Friday. The Bulldog 4×100 relay team is first on the track on Friday at 12:10 p.m.
