TRACK AND FIELD: Georgia Travels to the NCAA Championships

Georgia’s track and field teams traveled 11 team members who are qualified in 15 events for this weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
 
 
Postseason Continues . . . :
 
Two weeks after the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., junior Kendell Williams, who is the two-time defending national champion, and graduate transfer Xenia Rahn start the action in the pentathlon’s first event (60-meter hurdles) at 1 p.m. ET on Friday.
 
 
Three Bulldogs, who are all ranked in the country’s top eight, begin in the opening event of the heptathlon (60m) at 1:15 p.m. during the first day. Senior Garrett Scanting, who was second last year by just two points, and senior Maicel Uibo, who also has a national runner-up finish in the heptathlon on his resume, join sophomore Karl Saluri in the men’s combined events.
 
 
The open events are slated to start at 6 p.m. Senior Chanice Porter, sophomore Keturah Orji and Williams will battle in the long jump at 8:10 p.m. on Friday. Williams is also slated to compete in the open high jump on Saturday.
 
 
Day two kicks off with the final three events of the heptathlon at 1 p.m. on Saturday while the open events have a scheduled start time of 3 p.m.
 
 
The NCAA Indoor Championships will air live twice and be replayed two times. The broadcast talent includes Dwight Stones (play-by-play), Larry Rawson (analyst), John Ander­son and Larra Overton (sideline reporters).

Day One (Friday, March 11 – 6:30 p.m. ET) – ESPN3

Day Two (Saturday, March 12 – 4 p.m.) – ESPN3

Replay (Sunday, March 13 – 7 p.m.) – ESPN2

Kyprianou’s Comments:
 
“The meet is here and now it is time to answer the bell for everything we have been working on,” Bulldog head coach Petros Kyprianou. “I am confident our teams are prepared and are ready to compete. We have put in the work necessary and have talked about what type of situation we are in and what we could accomplish at Nationals. As always, there are some very talented teams here who will also be attempting to peak indoors this weekend. We just need to worry about what we can accomplish and get the job done.”
 
 
Where The Bulldogs Rank:
 
The Georgia women are ranked third in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll. The Bulldog men are ranked eighth nationally going into the final weekend of the season. The women’s all-time top final ranking is second (1996) indoors while the men’s top final ranking of all-time is sixth (1995).
 
 
A total of 13 SEC men’s and women’s teams are ranked among the nation’s top 25. In addition to both Georgia teams, nine of the conference’s squads are ranked in the top 10.
 
 
Who Is Representing The Red And Black:
 
The following Lady Bulldogs traveled to NCAAs: Rahn, a graduate transfer from North Carolina, Porter, Williams, junior Tatiana Gusin, Orji and sophomore Mady Fagan.
 
 
The following Georgia men will be joining them: seniors Ashinia Miller, Scantling, Uibo, Saluri and true freshman Denzel Comenentia.
