Former Georgia track and field signee and volunteer coach Jarryd Wallace won a gold medal in the 200-meter dash at the World Para Athletics Championships in London to highlight a successful weekend for the Bulldog program.

 
Wallace, an Oconee County graduate and 2007 UGA signee, clocked a 22.37 to edge Greece’s Michail Seitis (22.53) for the victory on Saturday. Wallace started the meet by earning a bronze medal in the 100m with a 10.95 on July 16 and also ran on Team USA’s 4x100m relay team that was disqualified on Sunday.
 
 
Wallace was not the only highlight of the weekend for the Georgia track and field program. Current Lady Bulldog Sam Drop reached the podium in the 5000m at the Pan Am Junior Championships in Trujillo, Peru. The rising sophomore completed her laps in 16:44.01 to be one of three competitors to break the 17-minute mark.
 
 
Two Georgia signees also battled in international Decathlon competitions. Estonia’s Johannes Erm tallied the highest decathlon point total of his career at 8,141 points to earn the silver medal and set the national junior record at the Under-20 European Championships in Grosseto, Italy. He began his final day of competition by setting a personal record in the 110m hurdles (14.39) and then registered personal bests in the discus (154 feet, 2 inches), pole vault (15-1) and javelin (183-9).
 
 
Erm held a 24-point lead after the first five events after scoring 4,226 points. He set a national junior record in the long jump with a mark of 25-0.75, launched a career-long shot put effort of 48-8.75, clocked the fastest time of his career in the 400m (47.65) and soared over the high jump bar at a season-best height of 6-2.75. Erm won both the long jump and the 400m.
 
 
Iceland’s Tristan Freyr Jonsson started his second day of the decathlon at the Under-20 EAP Combined Events Challenge in Hexham, England, with personal bests in the 110m hurdles (15.19) and discus (124-5). However, he did not record a fair mark in the javelin and then did not run the final event, the 1500m. Jonsson was in third place through the first day of events with 3,728 points. He highlighted his first day of action with a personal-best toss of 41-2.50 in the shot put.
