University of Georgia women’s track and field junior high jumper Mady Fagan has been named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Co-Field Athlete of the Week following UGA’s meet at the Aggie Invitational, according to a league announcement.
 
 
Fagan, a native of Los Gatos, Calif., shared the honor with Arkansas sophomore pole vaulter Tori Weeks. The Lady Bulldogs checked in at No. 3 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll while the Georgia men moved from No. 8 to No. 4.
 
 
This is the fourth SEC honor of the year for the Bulldogs. Darius Carbin (high jump) and Jessica Drop (3000 meters) swept the league’s Freshman of the Week honors on January 10 and senior Tatiana Gusin was named the USTFCCCA National Women’s Athlete of the Week and the SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on that same day.
 
 
After Gusin hit a personal record of 6 feet, 2 ¾ inches in the season opener, Fagan answered with a personal best of her own of 6-2.75 to win the Texas A&M meet by four inches. This effort tied Gusin for the national lead and the No. 2 spot in the school record books, along with 2016 Olympic finalist Levern Spencer.
 
 
Fagan now has the top mark by an American in 2017 and is tied for fourth on the current world list. She was the 2016 SEC outdoor champion and the NCAA outdoor runner-up last year.
 
 
Georgia returns to action at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday and Saturday. Three-time NCAA pentathlon champion Kendell Williams will compete in her first pentathlon of the season while First Team All-Americans Devon Williams, who is Kendell’s older brother, and Karl Saluri are set to line up in their first heptathlon of 2017.
