UGA’s Sid Vaughn, a senior with the track and field team, clocked the Bulldogs’ seventh-best time in school history in the 10,000 meters to highlight the start of the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., late Thursday night.
 
 
Vaughn, a native of Baton Rouge, La., and a graduate of Lakeside High School in Evans, GA, finished 12th in the second section and 29th overall with a time of 29:40.64 in the Invite Elite race. This moves Vaughn from No. 10 to No. 7 on the Bulldogs’ all-time top-10 list. UGA has six entries on its top-10 list in the 10,000m from the Mt. SAC Relays since 2004.
 
 
“Sid got this trip off to a good start,” said Bulldog distance coach Patrick Cunniff. “He ran a fast, controlled race with almost perfectly even pacing. After some tough results in 5Ks earlier this year, it was awesome to see him run 14:52 and then 14:48 back to back and race hard for a full 10000m. Friday is a very busy day for us. Bryan Kamau kicks it off at (2 p.m. ET). If everyone executes and competes like Sid did, it will be another great day.”
 
 
In addition to Kamau in the 1500m, seniors Kisean Smith and Christian Harrison and freshman Jeramey Hampton will run in the open 800m at 5:55 p.m. on Friday. The final Bulldog pair taking the track will be seniors Zack Sims and Steven Spevacek at 1:30 a.m. in the 5000m.
