Georgia split the team up with the offense in the indoor athletic facility while the defense practiced in the heat.  The team continued to work on fundamentals and the coaching staff was vocal throughout the media viewing period, which was short, but here are my three takeaways from practice.

 

Eason’s Back to Normal?

 
 
Jacob Eason practiced with the other QB’s like he had before the injury. On Monday, he wore a black sleeve on his left knee, but on Tuesday, it was a basic knee brace. He didn’t seem to favor the leg at all and wasn’t limping one bit. I saw him run with the other QB’s and he didn’t seem any worse for wear. Eason’s passes were almost perfect. There was one pass that was thrown to the ground, however, it seemed he didn’t follow all the way through and not that it was because of his leg. Everything else he tossed to the wideouts was sharp, crisp and tight. Coach Jim Chaney took him aside and spoke quietly to him, and Eason grinned as he jogged back to the other quarterbacks. Then he threw a bomb to Jeremiah Holloman, that was dropped by the freshman wideout but looked flawless.
 
 
Fromm seemed to be throwing with ones, Eason with the twos, and Ramsey third. All three made nice throws and I didn’t see many behind throws or anything overthrown. Fromm looked crisp in all of the drills and confident. The unit also ran handoff drills with the running backs to get ready for Saturday’s matchup.

James Coley’s wideouts had a case of the drops during the media period on Tuesday. Usually, the group doesn’t drop a ball but here and there, but something was off with the group on Tuesday. Javon Wims, Mecole Hardman, Terry Godwin, Riley Ridley and Jayson Stanley all had multiple drops that hit them in the hands. Coley shared choice words with the unit as he wasn’t happy with their performance.
 
 
However, it wasn’t all bad. Tyler Simmons made some plays while the media watched. Coley told him when he caught an over the shoulder pass, “don’t be surprised Tyler!” The wideout caught it and just had this look of wow I actually caught it, so the words seemed to encourage him. Javon Wims redeemed himself when catching the over the shoulder pass that made Coley go, “That’s nice, that’s so nice.” The catch was impressive and the wideout made sure to tiptoe in bounds.
 

O-Line Works Fundamentals:

Coach Pittman had the offensive line working with the “chute” as the media observed to see if any changes had been made. The drill they ran worked on keeping their bodies low so when they fire out of their stances, all the momentum will go to pushing the defender back. To get the right leverage, the line rotated their hips and exploded up to push back the defense.
 
 
There were a few “new” faces working with the two’s during the two periods I watched. Ben Cleveland worked at left guard in the second group. Not sure if this is a permanent move, but on Tuesday he worked inside. Isaiah Wilson took reps at the second-team left tackle spot after working with the three’s in previous weeks. Justin Shaffer worked at second-team right guard while Dyshon Sims took reps behind Andrew Thomas at right tackle.
 

Bits and Pieces:

 
Georgia spread the team out today as the offense worked inside and the defense stayed outside. Eason seemed to be back to normal, but you could tell the coaches were watching him closely and carefully. I doubt he starts or plays this weekend just to make sure he is fully healed. The wideouts struggled a bit, but overcame the adversity of dropped passes and ended the media period on a high note. And as for as the offensive line, Pittman and Kirby Smart seem to be rotating and finding the right guys for each position. Georgia has one more media viewing period on Wednesday and then a closed practice on Thursday before they face Mississippi State on Saturday night.
