Georgia continued preparing for Kentucky on Tuesday as the team practiced outside for the second straight day. Morale seemed to be higher than Monday and the team was back to its usual intensity that we have seen during the media viewing peirods this season. Both sides of the ball continued to focus on fundamentals and correcting their mistakes from last week.
Defense:
Georgia’s defense focused on fundamentals and the usual protocol like it has done on Tuesday’s practices throughout the fall. The linebackers worked on extended blocks. Glenn Schumann’s group worked with the chute and hitting the tackle dummies. Natrez Patrick was working alongside Roquan Smith with the ones. Juwan Taylor and Reggie Carter took second string looks.
The defensive line worked on their footwork and hand placement. They then moved to the tackling machine where the D-linemen worked on what Trey Scott called the three-point stance. He was quite vocal with his unit as usual as he motivated them to work hard. Scott demanded perfection from his linemen and they gave him that as he didn’t make any of the players do pushups like they usually have to do if they mess up the drill.
Offense:
I caught a beautiful pass from Jake Fromm to Javon Wims as the third period ended, which caused him to yell, “Wahoo, let’s go!” Fromm demanded high energy from his teammates and he got that. I didn’t see a pass dropped while the media was out there. James Coley demanded excellence as the media heard him giving directions from the bleachers before the viewing period began.
Sam Pittman’s offensive line worked on some pass block schemes and continued work with the chute. They worked on double-team drills, along with power blocks. Pittman likes to use the chute, and it seems to help the unit. Isaiah Wilson received praise from Pittman about his footwork. While some of the younger guys took reps, Lamont Gaillard took the time to aggravate Terry Godwin. He yelled at Godwin as he came down the field and Godwin laughed and went along with it. Shane Beamer’s tight ends joined the o-line for drills and worked on blocking.
The running backs also worked with a chute and ball security for the second day in a row. Dell McGee made sure his unit held onto the ball and kept their bodies low.
Bits and Pieces
Both sides of the ball focused on fundamentals and kept the intensity up like we have to expect in practices. The players looked like they have put what happened versus Auburn over the weekend behind them as they continued to prep for Kentucky. On another note, a Detroit Lions scout watched the linebackers and some of the offense closely during the media period. After day two of Kentucky week, Georgia looks ready to end its home season on a high note.
