Tyler Simmons, senior Georgia wide receiver, fielded questions from the media on Monday during player interviews and shared his thoughts about the Bulldogs being underdogs in the SEC Championship Game versus LSU. Simmons also talked about the responsibility of being a senior on the team and reaching out to mentor the younger players, especially when they are struggling or make a mistake.

The fact that Georgia is considered an underdog for Saturday’s game, does that motivate you?

“I feel like being at Georgia, we’ve been underdogs plenty of times,” Simmons said. “This position isn’t really anything new. Coach says pressure is a privilege, and it’s something that we believe.”

Have you had a chance to sit down and talk with freshman wide receiver George Pickens about the incident in the Georgia Tech game during the third quarter?

“We had a chance to sit down with him yesterday and talk about it. I think he sincerely knows what he did wrong and knows how to improve from it.”

Despite the fact that he has to sit for the first half of the SEC Championship game, what can George Pickens provide in the second half for the offense?

“I feel like he definitely can. I know, personally, Jake is very close to George and they have great timing. It can definitely give us some spark in the second half if it does come down to a close game.” 

As a senior, do you take responsibility and step up to help out the younger players on the team?

“Yeah, like you said, I am the oldest guy in the room. I have the most experience. It is up to me to put myself on that higher pedestal and try and bring those young guys with me.”
