The University of Georgia has added it’s 21st signee to the recruiting class of 2016 when New Manchester running back Brian Herrien signed his financial aid agreement with the Bulldogs today.
 
 
Herrien had to wait for his final grades to see if he would qualify academically to sign with a division 1, FBS program, a goal he has worked hard on over the last year and half, waking up early before school starts to put in extra study time. News broke that Herrien had done just that on Friday. His varsity high school football Coach, Rob Cleveland, told Dawgnation’s Jeff Sentell that the running back had qualified and was expected to sign with Georgia:
 
 
Brian Herrien is a much-welcomed addition to the Georgia football team. The team is thin at the running back position since A.J. Turman decided to transfer shortly before spring practice. Additionally, Nick Chubb and Brendan Douglas are still recovering from injuries. How thin have the Bulldogs been at running back? Going into spring the only two healthy scholarship tailbacks were Sony Michel and Tae Crowder. In fact, sophomore wide receiver Shaquery Wilson was switched to tailback to help out for spring practice and was featured from the running back spot during the G-Day game back on April 16th.
 
 
But all is not dark storm clouds, Douglas was near 100% by the end of spring, playing in the G-Day in a black non-contact jersey, and Chubb looks to not only be super man on the field but also off the field when it comes to his ability to heal and rehab. Another 2016 running back signee, Woodward Academy’s Elijah Holyfield, will be enrolling in June along with Herrien, and the Dawgs should be headed into fall practice with depth at running back again.
 
 
So, what does Brian Herrien bring to the table at running back? The 6 foot 1 and 210 lbs back was the GHSA Class AAAAA leading rusher for the 2015 season, amassing over 1,970 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in just 10 games, earning first team all-state and all-region honors in the process. He put his strength on display on Twitter back in March lifting 135 lbs over his head with one arm:
 
 

 
 
Of course, fans who did not watch New Manchester high school football the last several years may ask why Brian Herrien was so lightly recruited. He didn’t go to many camps on the recruiting circuit, and because there were questions about whether or not he would qualify academically, he was not heavily recruited by FBS schools.
