The UGA baseball team received another dominant pitching performance from their starter, but their offense failed to give him any support and that ultimately led to their 4-1 loss to Auburn.
 

 
The starting pitching for both teams was once again outstanding and it came down to which pitcher would make the mistake that would cost them the game. Bulldogs’ starting pitcher Chase Adkins gave up his big mistake in the fourth inning when he gave up a two-run home run to Tigers’ shortstop Luke Jarvis. Jarvis’s home run would end up being the only scoring in the game for either team.
 
 
Besides his fourth-inning struggles, Adkins was absolutely dominant for the entirety of the game. Through eight innings of work, Adkins threw over 100 pitches and only surrendered two runs on four hits and hit one batter with a pitch. Adkins finished with a career-high eight strikeouts and did not surrender a single walk. Adkins has been the most consistent out of the Bulldogs’ starting pitchers and his consistency has helped the Bulldogs earn some key wins.
 
 
The Bulldogs relief pitching allowed two more runs to come across in the top of the 9th and those insurance runs for the most part assured the victory for the Tigers.
 
 
The Bulldogs’ pitching has been exceptional in their SEC home opening series against the Tigers as they have only given up 4 earned runs. The Bulldogs have also done a great job of stranding runners in the series as they found a way to leave 18 of the Tigers baserunners on base. The pitching staff will need to continue to be dominant if they hope to contend in the SEC.
 
 
The one area that the Bulldogs need to make some much-needed improvement is in the area of scoring runs. The Bulldogs only scored six runs in the series and they were held to one run in two of the three games. The Bulldogs will need to get their offense going if they hope to improve on their 11-14 overall record and 1-5 conference record.
 
 
The Bulldogs face Savannah State in a one-game series next on March 28th at 6 p.m.
