The UGA Baseball team had the long ball working as they fought back with three home runs to win the game over the Presbyterian Blue Hose 8-7.

 
 
The Bulldogs had chipped away at the Blue Hose lead all night long and after tying the game up with a four-run 6th inning, they finally took the lead in the 7th. Austin Biggar got in position to score what ended up being the winning run after he walked and advanced to second on a passed ball. Biggar would eventually score on a single from Adam Sasser that was hit hard to right field.
 
 
With the wind blowing straight out to center, home runs were aplenty in this game. However, the Bulldogs were able to have more home runs than their counterparts and that ultimately ended up being the difference in the game. The Bulldogs hit three home runs to the Blue Hose two and with one run being the difference between the two teams that home run was crucial.
 
 
The Bulldogs had two solo shots which came from Michael Curry, who leads the team with five, and Aaron Schunk, who hit his first of the season and the first of his career. The big home run for the Bulldogs came from Will Proctor, who hit a three-run home run in the 6th which brought the Bulldogs within one at the time. Proctor had an error earlier in the game that cost the Bulldogs a run, so hitting that home run was definitely redeeming for his past mistake.
 
 
Although the Bulldogs’ pitching staff gave up 7 runs in the game, the pitching was actually much better than the scoreboard shows. Six of the Blue Hose’s runs came off of home runs and one of the home runs was a grand slam in the second inning. After that grand slam, the Bulldogs bullpen only gave up three runs and one of those runs was unearned.
 
 
The Bulldogs’ pitching out of the bullpen has been outstanding and they played a major role in keeping their team in the game. The Bulldogs used four pitchers out of the pen in Christian Ryder, Ryan Avidano, Zac Kristofak, and Adam Goodman and through 7 combined innings of work they gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Kristofak, Avidano, and Ryder also each had three strikeouts on the night.
 
 
The Bulldogs will need to have everything working as they start SEC play this weekend in Baton Rouge as they face the No. 6 ranked LSU Tigers for a three-game series, which will start on March 17th.
 
 
Star of the Game: Ryan Avidano
 
Michael Curry was more than deserving of being the Bulldogs’ star of the game, but I went with Ryan Avidano because his pitching efforts in the 6th kept the Bulldogs in a position to make a comeback. Avidano came into the game with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs and was able to get two straight outs without allowing a run to score. The only run that Avidano did allow to score came off a failed pickoff attempt, but keeping multiple runs off the board in that situation is what made Avidano my star of the game.
