It was another low-scoring affair in the UGA baseball team’s Saturday’s game against the Blazers but this time they were able to earn the 2-0 victory to even up the series at one game apiece.

 
 
This game was yet again another pitcher’s duel between Bulldogs’ starter Tony Locey and Blazers’ starter Ryan Ruggles. It once again came down to which pitcher would make the first mistake and this time it was the Blazers’ starter who faltered. Ruggles gave up a solo shot in the bottom of the third to Bulldogs’ center fielder Tucker Maxwell and that lone run was enough to earn the Bulldogs their fourth victory on the year. The Bulldogs manufactured another run in the bottom of the 6th after Tucker Bradley scored on a sacrifice fly from Will Proctor.
 
 
The lack of run support ended up not being an issue in the end for the Bulldogs thanks in large part to Locey’s absolute dominance on the mound. Locey earned his second victory of the year as he pitched 6 innings while earning 6 strikeouts and only giving up 4 hits, 1 walk, and 0 runs. Locey would get into trouble in a few of his innings, but each and every time he was able to work out of the jam. Andrew Gist came in in relief of Locey and earned a save as he pitched three straight shutout innings to end the game.
 
 
Gist, who is a senior, has been outstanding in relief for the Bulldogs this season, but the one player who has been even more impressive than Gist has been Locey. Locey struggled in his first start of the season in which he gave up 7 runs but since then he has been lights out on the mound for the Bulldogs. Locey has not given up a run since his first outing and the one area he has made huge improvements in is the use of his off-speed pitch in conjunction with his dominant fastball. The fact that Locey has made such strides in such a short amount of time is very encouraging for what the rest of his season may entail.
 
 
Although the Bulldog’s pitching has improved since the opening series, the Bulldogs offense has continued to struggle to some degree. Georgia has only scored 24 runs in their past 7 games and 7 of those runs came in one game. The Bulldogs will need their offense to come alive if they hope to win more close games.
