Opposite to Friday’s game, The UGA baseball team got the better of the University of Florida through the first six innings, but a rough seventh inning led to the Bulldogs leaving the game with a 6-3 loss.
 
The Gators’ seventh inning saw six of their players reach base and only one of those players ended up not scoring. Those five runs were crucial in the outcome of the game as it moved the game from a 3-1 lead for the Bulldogs to a 6-3 lead for the Gators. The Gators got those runs in a variety of ways, but free bases in the inning were a huge contributor to how the inning went.
 
 
Starting pitcher Chase Adkins, who had a much better day than his number show, started off the inning by hitting the lead-off hitter with a pitch. Adkins then gave up a single and a walk, which loaded up the bases full of Gators with no outs. Adkins was then replaced by Ryan Avidano and Avidano was in the toughest spot a relief pitcher can be put into in a game.
 
 
Avidano tried to work out of the trouble, but he was unsuccessful as he gave up three hits and two sacrifice flies before getting out of the inning. All five runs came across to score with Avidano on the mound, but he should not be deemed responsible for all of the runs because of how tough of a position he was put in when he entered the game.
 
 
The Bulldogs bats were much more consistent as every player except for one that registered an at-bat reached base at least once. Tucker Bradley led the charge once again as he had his second three-hit game of the series. Mitchell Webb and Cam Shepherd also both had an outstanding day at the plate as they each had multi-hit games. Webb had one of the Bulldogs’ three RBIs while Shepherd scored one of the team.
 
 
Webb also had a nice day defensively as he made multiple tough plays at the hot corner for the Bulldogs. Bradley can also be credited with a nice defensive day as he made a tough throw from the outfield to home plate to keep the Gators off the board in the first inning. However, The Bulldogs did have an error and minor mistakes in a close game like this can sometimes be detrimental.
 
 
The Bulldogs once again seemed to have one of their games where they have one aspect of their game working while another falters. They will need to bring everything together if they hope to salvage a win on Sunday in the final game of the series.
 
 
The Bulldogs will face the Gators in game three of the series at 1 p.m. on April 30th.
