For the second game in a row, the UGA baseball team gave up too many runs early and that ultimately lead to their 8-3 loss to Rider on Saturday.

 
 
The Bulldogs started the game off with Tony Locey on the mound and his poor performance was eerily similar to that of Kevin Smith’s in game one. Locey only survived an inning and two-thirds and gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks. Locey had not given up a single run in his two starts previous to this game so it was odd to see him struggle so much. This series has been a tough one on Bulldogs’ pitching and they will hope to right the ship tomorrow.
 
 
The most abysmal part of the Bulldogs’ performance was their plethora of fielding mistakes. The Bulldogs finished the night with 8 errors and giving up that many free bases will almost never lead to victory. The Bulldogs have had 10 errors in the series thus far and will have to have better fielding if they hope to not get swept by the Broncs.
 
 
The Bulldogs were not able to have a better day at the plate, even though they seemed to hit the ball hard. Many of the Bulldogs hard hits found Broncs gloves and that led to them only earning 3 runs on 5 hits. Michael Curry had a nice day at the plate as he got on base three out of four times by the way of a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a two-run home run.
 
 
The star for the Bulldogs today was once again their bullpen, which saw pitchers Drew Moody, Ryan Avidano, and Shaefer Shepard all make an appearance. The three gave up a combined 2 unearned runs, on 4 hits and 1 walk. Moody, Avidano, and Shepard also finished with 9 combined strikeouts, with Avidano earning 6 of those during his time on the mound. With these past two poor starts, it has been helpful for the Bulldogs to have some success with their relief pitching.
 
 
The Bulldogs will hope to avoid the sweep in game three of the series on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
