[break] Georgia (6-4) aims to return to its winning ways this week after dropping three straight one-run games at Georgia Southern this past weekend. The Bulldogs begin a season-long 10-game stretch at home on Tuesday when Furman (4-5) visits Foley Field at 5:05 p.m.

[break] [break] On Wednesday, the Bulldogs face Georgia State (7-4) at 5:05 p.m. and then Longwood (4-6) arrives for a three-game series beginning Friday at 5:05 p.m. In the all-time series, Georgia leads Furman 18-5 and Ga. State 39-7 while this will be the first meeting with the Lancers of Longwood. The Bulldogs beat Furman last year 6-4 in Athens on Feb. 25 and the next day lost 3-2 to the Panthers at Foley Field. [break] The Bulldogs endured a tough weekend at the plate in their first road trip as the Eagles limited Georgia to a .165 batting average and only six runs scored while stranding 24 runners on base. Georgia’s top two pitchers, Robert Tyler and Ryan Lawlor, combined to throw just 4.2 innings in the series due to injury and rain. Tyler left Friday night’s game after 3.2 innings in what turned out to be an injury in his right forearm that was muscular in nature after an MRI showed the UCL was intact. Tyler (1-0, 3.86 ERA) will be progressed back to pitching as tolerated. Then on Saturday, Lawlor (2-1, 2.77 ERA) pitched just one inning before the game was halted on account of rain.
[break] [break] The Bulldogs posted a 3.38 ERA in the series. A pair of Bulldog juniors pitched well Sunday but got no decisions. David Sosebee (2-0, 1.04 ERA) pitched 6.1 scoreless innings and tied his career-high with eight strikeouts when he started the halted game. In game two, Sean McLaughlin (1-1, 2.70 ERA) tossed five innings and allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts. For the week, McLaughlin made two starts and went 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA with three walks and 11 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched. He is a strong candidate to return to the weekend rotation.
[break] [break] For the season, Georgia is batting .294 with nine home runs while the ERA is a solid 2.28. One area where Georgia continues to shine is on defense as the Bulldogs own a .986 Fielding Percentage. They have made just five errors this year and two of those were by a pitcher.
[break] [break] Georgia’s leading hitter is sophomore center fielder Stephen Wrenn at .385-0-5, and he has reached base in all 10 games this year along with a current five-game hitting streak. Freshman left fielder Keegan McGovern (.320-1-9) is next followed by senior first baseman/pitcher Jared Walsh (.310-1-8). Walsh has a career-best eight-game hitting streak. On the mound, he is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA in three relief appearances. Walsh is slated to start Wednesday against Ga. State. On Tuesday, freshman left-hander Ryan Avidano (0-0, 0.00) will make his first career start. Avidano has made two relief appearances for a total of three innings with no walks and four strikeouts. After being rained out Sunday, Furman will go with senior RHP Matt Solter (0-0, 2.03). The Panthers plan to start junior RHP Marc-Andre Habeck (2-0, 5.40).
