University of Georgia catcher Michael Curry has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Curry, a 5-11, 205-pound native of Gainesville, Ga., helped Georgia go 3-1 against top 20 opponents this past week. He batted .412 with five runs scored, a double, a home run and three RBI as Georgia defeated No. 19 Georgia Tech and won a series over No. 2 South Carolina. Curry had three hits and an RBI in the road win over Tech and a career-best four-hit game against the Gamecocks. He started all four games last week including three at catcher and posted perfect fielding in 37 total chances.

Curry, who is batting .264 with 18 RBI, is tied for the team lead in home runs with six. He is the second Bulldog to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season, joining pitcher Kevin Smith.

Georgia (20-17) returns to action Tuesday when it travels to No. 22 Clemson (24-12). First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m., and the game will be available on ESPN3 and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network from IMG.
