Before the clock struck midnight on Sunday night and the calendar moved from January 29th to January 30th, UGA hosted a number of prospects on official visit over the weekend.
Clay-Chalkville HS wide receiver Nico Collins and American Heritage High School lineman Tedarrell Slaton got a lot of attention as they are major targets holding offers from Georgia for 2017. The Bulldogs are hoping to sign at least one more receiver in this recruiting class, and Collins would be a big get. Slaton is ranked as the number 2 offensive guard by 247Sports composite ranking system, but he could also flip to the defensive side of the ball and be a mauler on the d-line.

In addition to Collins and Slaton, Georgia hosted defensive backs Shawn Shamburger and Tray Bishop.
Shamburger is a 5-11 and 189 cornerback out of Colquitt County High School from Moultrie, GA who is currently committed to Tennessee, and Bishop is a 6-2 and 198 lbs athlete out of Terrell County High School from Dawson, GA who de-committed from Auburn back on December 13th and flipped his commitment to UGA back on New Year’s Day. Bishop is expected to sign his National Letter of Intent (LOI) on National Signing Day, which is tomorrow, with the Bulldogs at approximately 8:45 a.m. ET.
The Bulldogs hosted a number of class of 2018, 2019 and 2020 prospects on unofficial visits too. Peach County High School, 2018 athlete Kearis Jackson took in the Georgia men’s basketball game against Texas on Saturday afternoon along with the other recruits.

A short 2-day “dead period” in the 2016-2017 recruiting calendar went into effect on Monday and will end tonight (Tuesday) at midnight, when the “quiet period” begins on National Signing Day and runs all the way through April 14th. What is the “quiet period” in the NCAA recruiting calendar?
During the “quiet period”, coaches and staff members are not allowed to have any off-campus in-person, face-to-face contact with a recruiting prospect, but are allowed to have prospects and their parents or guardians visit the campus of the school. Electronic communication including phone calls are allowed with the restriction of one call per week per prospect.
Of course, it may be named the “quiet period”, but it won’t be so quiet in Athens, GA on Wednesday or in any other college town across the country as prospects will be “signing and faxing in” those LOI’s.
