The UGA equestrian took home multiple SEC honors for their conference championship season including Head Coach Meghan Boenig being named SEC Coach of the Year, senior Meg O’Mara was named SEC Rider of the Year for Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences, Sydney Hutchins was named SEC Freshman Rider of the Year in both Hunt Seat events, and four other Georgia riders helped the Bulldogs claim a total of six spots on All-SEC teams.

 
 
For Head Coach Meghan Boenig, this marks her third SEC Coach of the Year award.
 
 
This is the second SEC Rider of the Year accolade for O’Mara in Equitation Over Fences after being given the award at the conclusion of last season. The Rumson, New Jersey native finished the regular season with a 12-1 record in Equitation on the Flat and an 11-2 record in Equitation Over Fences, before adding two wins in both events at the SEC Championship. O’Mara has claimed five Rider of the Month awards this season, three from the SEC and two from the NCEA. She earned a total of 12 Most Outstanding Performance (MOP) honors, six in each event, and was named to the SEC All-Championship Team in Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences.
 
 
Hutchins came to Georgia from Westlake Village, California, and earned a spot in the starting lineup to begin the 2016-17 campaign. She compiled an overall record of 11-7-2 in Hunt Seat events, including a 9-2 record in Equitation Over Fences throughout the regular season, adding one win and a tie in Fences at the SEC Championship. She rode to a career-high score of 88 in Equitation Over Fences against Auburn and a score of 81 in Equitation on the Flat against Fresno State.
 
 
Earning All-SEC accolades were O’Mara (Equitation on the Flat, Equitation Over Fences), Bailey Anderson (Horsemanship), and Claudia Spreng (Reining), while Hutchins (Flat, Fences) was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
 
 
Anderson rode to a 10-3 record in Horsemanship during the regular season, earning three MOP honors, before adding two wins and one MOP honor at the SEC Championship. She scored her season-high, 76.5, against Auburn.
 
 
Spreng compiled a 9-3-1 record in Reining during the regular season, earning four MOP honors in the event. She rode to a season-high score of 72.5 at Fresno State.
 
 
The Bulldogs will compete for the program’s seventh national title at the NCEA National Championship in Waco, Texas April 13-15. As the No. 2 seed, Georgia received a first round bye and will take on the winner of No. 7 Fresno State versus No. 10 New Mexico State on Friday, April 14. The semifinal and championship rounds will take place on Saturday, April 15.
