The UGA football team has a bye this week before they head up to Knoxville for a road game at night against SEC East rival, Tennessee, on Saturday, October 5, and that bye week comes at a good time for the Bulldogs who are nursing some injuries. After Tuesday’s practice, Head Coach Kirby Smart gave an update on several of the injured Dawgs.

Absent from the media viewing period of Tuesday’s afternoon practice was sophomore cornerback Tyson Campbell and redshirt sophomore cornerback Eric Stokes. Campbell suffered a lower-leg injury in the Arkansas State game back on September 14th and did not dress out or play for Notre Dame on Saturday. Stokes suffered an apparent leg injury early in this past Saturday’s Notre Dame game in the first quarter but was able to come back in late in the fourth quarter.

“Eric (Stokes) was not able to go today. It’s looking like he’s going to be fine, but he was a little sore. He jogged yesterday and ran today,” said Kirby Smart. “Tyson (Campbell) is working out, training, but not able to practice.”

Offensive lineman Solomon Kindley is another player that got “dinged up” versus the Fighting Irish, having to leave during the second quarter after suffering a lower left leg injury, and the junior right guard was also missing from the media viewing period on Tuesday.

“Solomon (Kindley) didn’t practice today and he’ll be day-to-day,” said Smart.  “He’ll be fine but he wasn’t able to practice today.”

Also not seen on Tuesday was senior defensive lineman David Marshall. He did dress out and play against Notre Dame on Saturday and has played in all of Georgia’s games so far this season. Kirby addressed his absence on Tuesday, and it sounds like he’ll be ready to go for Tennessee.

“David’s (Marshall) foot injury has been bothering him all year. He’s strong, he’s playing,” said Kirby.  “He played in a lot of snaps against Notre Dame. It continuously bothers him so we’re trying to help him out with that. We’re leaving him out (a little) this week and get him back next week.”

After playing in the first six games last year, Marshall missed the remainder of the 2018 season due to a Lisfranc Fracture in his foot and had surgery to address the injury. Marshall talked about his Lisfranc Fracture foot injury back on August 23rd during a player interview stating the injury occurred during the Vanderbilt game on October 16 last year.

“(During the Vandy game) I got on the sideline and sat for a minute.  It got stiff on me and I couldn’t walk on it, so I knew there was something wrong,” said Marshall.  “I can take pain. I can take any injury.  But when I couldn’t walk, I knew there was something wrong with it.”

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Tommy Bush was still out. He has been recovering from a sports hernia. Another redshirt freshman wide receiver who has been recovering from an injury, Kearis Jackson, is still practicing with a protective club on his left hand and wrist which he broke in Georgia’s season-opening game versus Vanderbilt back on August 31st.
