Ok, fine. Lambert had no role at all.
I honestly don’t care who they start. I just hope whoever it is that dawgnation gets behind them. I am sure that won’t happen but I can wish.

In the TIFWIW category, and Gregg’s contention that UGA PR is rather a mess, looks like the Athens Banner-Herald id having a mini-war with UGA and spokesperson Karri Hobson-Pope, VP for marketing and communications. The latter is contending that the official stadium attendance was never exceeded, that there were always empty seats visible early on, and no one was turned away due to crowd size. The newspaper is contending that their one photos show no empty seats, people were standing in aisles snd along at least one of the stadium’s open stairways leading to upper level seating and people were being turned away. My wife and I and two friends were there with high power binocs and the place looked packed to us. So, gosh, who to believe….LOL. Hard to figure why this is even a thing.

CLTDawg dsw61 I’m an “anybody but Lambert” person. I just don’t like how he throws the football and there were some games last year where the defense really bailed out the offense. Plus there were way to many three and outs last year. Both Ramsey and Eason have the ability to fit the ball into tight windows if they are coached to be decisive. The big myth in QB play IMO is that receivers need to be open to be thrown the ball. The definition of “open” is relative. In the spring game, we got a little peak at what being decisive looks like. Basically “BBs” being thrown all over the field. Some of the catches made by the receivers were made in extremely tight coverage. The receivers just won the battle for the ball. Both Ramsey and Eason have quick releases and can put some mustard on their throws. Surely that has to count for something with the coaches.

MidtownTeacher yep.  I stopped being overconfident in the “lesser leagues” teams after Boise came to Atlanta and put one on us.

Time to start getting to know UNC:

After reading these, I realize UNC is going to be a much tougher opening opponent than I had thought.  Their team was young last year with very few holes to plug for 2016 with the biggest one, QB, already plugged and plugged well.   We need our RBs, whoever is playing, to step up and pound UNC if we are going to win.

CLTDawg dsw61 Would it be a disaster if Eason redshirts?  I know he is likely to be a 3 and out, but if Ramsey can get it done better than Eason and Eason can take the year to get school, the playbook, and everything under his belt, then is it a disaster?  He would still have a minimum of 2 years to work the field for us.

  8. Greg Poole

dsw61 I doubt class load will be a factor. Having started in spring, he is going to be way ahead of his contemporaries in credits. I expect he will take the minimum in fall.

  9. Brooklyndawg

dsw61 Greg Poole Lambert is an MA grad student in anthropology, no idea what his actual class load is like, at UGA. When I was a grad student U of Md I had one class my first year, the rest of the time was devoted to research. Same thing subsequently at U of Ill. I’m guessing that Lambert’s academic load is light.

  10. BahitsDawg

Panic Fan Greg Poole Didn’t he cancel that show due to some illness?  I wonder if this was related.

  11. dsw61

Greg Poole dsw61 It will be interesting if Eason’s class load impacts how much time he can devote to the playbook. I would imagine that Ramsey has a lighter class load, or at least is very comfortable balancing academics with football. Lambert probably has one class, so he can study the heck out of the playbook.

  12. CLTDawg

AlphaDawg I think a lot of the talk leading up to the season will focus on who will be the starters at WR, or the 2-deep…but I think we will just have a free-flowing rotation of guys, which is scary to think about for opposing defenses. Fresh legs all over the field.

  13. CLTDawg

dsw61 Agreed 1000%. I think Kirby WANTS Ramsey to step up and be ready. If he doesn’t, I could see him going with Eason or Lambert if Eason is just clearly not ready by gameweek.

  14. MMCSDAWG

PTCDawg I don’t believe CKS will discount any of the three, but my prediction of Eason or Ramsey as the wild card is predicated on the same “Win” philosophy as well.  Due to the inexperience and lack of size across our OL it is my belief that Chaney/Smart will try and exploit the talents UGA does have on our offense. This includes our TE’s and WR’s.  Chubb is a monster and I hope he is back 100% by UNC, but even with him, I do not expect UGA to run the ball 70% of the time like we did in protecting Lambert and our lack of down field passing attack last year.  The lack of experience and depth on the OL to me feels like Kirby will want a QB that is mobile, someone who can tuck the ball and pick up a few yards if the pocket collapses around them, not someone who will throw it away or take the sack without moving.  Now, are either Ramsey or Eason ready to fill that requirement?  I don’t know, but based on what I saw Sat, if Eason and/or Ramsey can continue to progress and show Chaney and Kirby they can be trusted to make good decisions, I believe the job is Eason’s.  I appreciate everything Lambert has done for UGA and I won’t be one to bad mouth him at all.  He did a Hell of a job last year considering he got here merely weeks before the season started and lead us to a 10-3 season. (I know he didn’t play in JAX)…  But, he is limited and his inability to move the pocket or scramble might be the difference for Chaney and Kirby!

  15. Greg Poole

dsw61  Ramsey is starting year 4. I really wish he would come on and take the job, but I just don’t see it happening. If it is between him and Eason in August, just pulling ahead will not be enough. He will have to be significantly ahead.

  16. PTCDawg

Frankly, I did not mean that you hate him as a person, just as a football player. I don’t get why our offense has to be much improved when we won last year with o being the way it was. Btw, getting Chubb back will make this o much improved.
Lambert did not play against fla is why I count him at 10-2. Which would have been 11-1 if not for a miracle play in Knoxville. I just can’t ignore that when thinking of how we will be most successful in our first 5 games against a front loaded schedule.

  17. CLTDawg

Greg Poole CLTDawg I could see them doing that, but I think the preference is to have one of the other guys ready to go. To me, that’s why Kirby has been vocal about challenging Brice. In my view, having a capable Ramsey, with Eason getting progressively more and more snaps as the season goes on, is the best case scenario. Lambert will hold the clipboard, and be an asset as an extra set of eyes on the sidelines.

  18. Greg Poole

CLTDawg I understand what you are saying – still think Eason starts in the Dome. No reason to be conservative. Put him out there and dare UNC to come get him.
They are not going to slow play Eason, IMHO. He either starts the season or is 3 on the chart.

  19. dsw61

Regarding the QB discussion, Kirby may have a hard time blocking out the memory of how he game planned for Lambert last year when Bama played Georgia. He has publicly stated several times that mobile QBs are harder to defend than QBs like Lambert. I suspect deep down he would prefer to start a QB with more mobility than Lambert. He has publicly said that he has been pleasantly surprised by Ramsey’s mobility. The question will come down to whether or not Ramsey can step up, command the huddle, and get the offense lined up correctly. A couple of days ago Kirby said that Lambert “fixes people”. Meaning he gets the other players lined up correctly when they don’t know what they’re suppose to do. Ramsey has all summer to get into the playbook, so he has plenty of time to get up to speed. Not sure what his commitment level is though. I do think Kirby and Chaney have a way of getting their message across to the players, so maybe they can get Ramsey to take things a little more serious.

  20. Frankly

    PTCDawg
Don’t be silly.  I have no reason to hate anyone on MY team.   I thought we were discussing who we think the starter should be.

The goal is certainly to win games and an effective offense is a critical part of that goal.  10 games were won against a very weak schedule (no wins against a ranked team).   But in order to reach the goals that this   coaching staff and program has, the offense will need to be much improved.

  21. CLTDawg

Greg Poole CLTDawg There is no single qualification. Eason is a true freshman, and no one can argue that he’s not the most talented QB on the roster right now…however, people are getting a little carried away with wanting to throw this kid out there against what was a top 10 defense last year based off a scrimmage against second teamers when he couldn’t be touched.

I think if the goal is to have Eason progress as quickly as possible, sure, run him and there and live with it. If the goal is to win games, go with one of the guys who are veterans, who have seen live action before, who have been around the team, and who are still — conspiracy theories aside — ahead of Eason on the depth chart exiting spring. I, personally, would choose Ramsey, whose stats in GDay were pretty similar to Eason’s despite getting to throw the ball less, and who I think got a bit of a raw deal under Schotty (which some of it was his own fault as we all know).  I’d give Eason at least a couple series in each of the first few games, and phase him in over the year.

  22. MMCSDAWG

AlphaDawg Frankly Also the addition of Wimms and Drob will only add to the weapons we will have on the outside!  Throw in Mecole for a package or two and wow!  With our OL being a little less experienced and undersized, it would not surprise me at all if we throw the ball a lot more this season.  That is part of the reasoning behind my prediction of Eason as our QB from UNC on!

  23. PTCDawg

Your goal may be passing yards, coaches goal is wins. You may hate Lambert but he is the only guy we have that has won at all at the Sec level. He may come in third, I leave that to the coaches, I just think it’s ridiculous to dismiss him from consideration at this point given the circumstances.

  24. AlphaDawg

Frankly AlphaDawg yes the TE’s are another convo. Getting those short slants will eat up a defense. Nauta and Harris looked real good

  25. Frankly

    AlphaDawg

I agree.  + Godwin and the TE’s and the passing game should be much improved.

All right ladies and gentlemen, back on the road I go. I’ll check in later.

Also, we’ll have a new Breaking the Huddle podcast up for you tomorrow (well as early as late tonight), but should be some good stuff.

  28. AlphaDawg

Based solely off the Gday game, I can tell you I’m not nearly as worried about the WR core anymore. Stanley, Chigbu, and Ridley showed they can and will make an impact as young WRs

  29. Bulldawg Bob2

ZippyMorocco Bulldawg Bob2  Several prospects have tweeted that recently. I think it is auto correct on the phones doing that.
