The UGA football staff has added former Auburn TE and special teams coordinator Scott Fountain and former Georgia offensive lineman Fernando Velasco to its staff.
On Thursday, S. Fountain accepted a football operations position at the University of Georgia after his contract with Auburn expired. It is being reported that he will fill the role of special teams analyst that was vacated by James Vollono when he left to be the special teams coordinator at FIU back in January. Fountain came to Auburn as part of former Tiger head coach Gene Chizik’s staff from Iowa State, serving as the director of player personnel from 2009-2012 and remained on staff when Gus Malzahn replaced Chizik in 2013 becoming the tight ends coach and special teams coordinator.
Fountain is known for coaching nationally renowned kickers and punters like Lou Groza finalist Daniel Carlson and a three-time semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, Steven Clark. He is also known as a solid college recruiter having helped to recruit players like Calvin Ashley, Markaviest Bryant, Richard McBride, Woody Barret, and Landon Rice during his time with the War Eagles.
He began his college coaching career at Florida State 1994-1996 as an offensive graduate assistant. After his time with the Seminoles, he was hired by Central Florida in 1997 as the offensive guards and centers coach and co-recruiting coordinator. Fountain finished his last six years at UCF as an offensive tackles/tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator from 1998-2003. He then went on to be the offensive line coach at Middle Tennessee from 2004-2005, before moving to Georgia Southern in 2006 as offensive line and assistant head coach. Before coming to Auburn he was on Chizik’s staff at Iowa State from 2007-2008.

Within 24 hours of hiring S. Fountain, UGA announced that Kirby Smart had also added Fernando Velasco, who was an offensive lineman for the Bulldogs from 2003-2006. After graduating from UGA, Velasco was signed as an undrafted free agent by NFL franchise Tennessee Titans in 2008. He remained with the Titans through the 2012 season and then signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013. After the Steelers, Velasco also played for the Carolina Panthers in 2014, then returned to the Titans in 2015, and ended his professional football career with the Buffalo Bills in 2016. Velasco will serve on the Georgia staff as a Player Relations Coordinator.
