Malcolm Mitchell (football) and Keturah Orji (women’s track and field) claimed Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Year awards at the UGA annual Student-Athlete Awards Banquet hosted by the University of Georgia Athletic Association on Monday, April 25.
DJ Shockley, former Georgia quarterback who led the Bulldogs to the 2005 SEC Championship, hosted the event.
Seniors Sylvie Brick (women’s golf) and Kisean Smith (men’s track and field) were named Georgia’s nominees for the SEC Brad Davis Community Service Postgraduate Scholarships, while sophomore Jeb Blazevich (football) and senior Brittany MacLean (women’s swimming) were named recipients of the UGA Athletic Association Sportsmanship-Ethics Award.
Swimmer Ty Stewart and basketball player Majorie Butler were recognized for receiving the Boyd McWhorter SEC Postgraduate Scholarship.
The men’s cross country and women’s swimming and diving teams were recognized as the recipients of the Faculty Athletics Representative’s award, after earning the highest team grade point averages of 3.42 and 3.16, respectively, during the 2014-15 academic year.
