UGA men’s basketball Head Coach Tom Crean discusses the Bulldogs 93-81 win over Valdosta State in an exhibition game on Friday night at the Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, GA.
The Hoop Dawgs had two freshmen finish in double digits on the night. Freshman Anthony Edwards led the team with 18 points and Sahvir Wheeler added 10.
“Based on the way we have been practicing, that is what I expected,” Coach Crean said on the game and the win. “I thought Sahvir Wheeler really came in and changed the dynamic of the game. I started five guys, but I tried to tell the team that we don’t have a starting lineup. If you can get a team that has seven, eight, upwards of nine starters, that means you have that many potential finishers. The things that we have not spent a lot of time on are the areas we need to improve. There is a long list of things we need to get better at but, bottom line, they kept playing hard, had a lot of deflections and there is a ton of room for improvement.”
Georgia will host Western Carolina for their season opener in Stegeman on Tuesday, November 5, at 7:00 p.m., but the Bulldogs have another exhibition game before them. The team will travel to Charlotte, NC to take on the 49ers on Friday, October 25 in Halton Arena.
