UGA Athletic Association staff members and student-athletes will be at East Athens Community Center on Friday, August 4 as part of the “UGA Learn, Play, Excel” program.
Georgia is partnering with the community center to provide a great experience for their “First Fridays Family Day”. UGA Athletics staff and student-athletes, Athens-Clarke County Police, UGA Police, and other community programs and services will be in attendance to show and provide support for the Back to School event, which runs from 5-8 p.m. There will be a DJ, inflatables, a catered dinner for participants, and appearances from UGA cheerleaders and Hairy Dawg, among other activities.?Student-athletes will distribute Nike book bags to 300 kids.
Georgia’s Learn, Play, Excel program was started as a way for Bulldogs to meet and mentor students about the importance of education, perseverance and pursuing their dreams. This marks the eighth event where Georgia has shared the message. “UGA Day — Learn, Play, Excel” was first held at Miller Grove High School in Lithonia in 2011. Georgia has also visited Hamilton E. Holmes Elementary in East Point (2012), Charles R. Drew Charter School in Atlanta (2013), Berta Weathersbee Elementary in LaGrange (2014), D.H. Stanton Elementary School in Atlanta (2015), F.L. Stanton Elementary School in Atlanta (May 2016), and the East Athens Community Center (August 2016).
