Today on Bulldawg Illustrated’s UGA Recruiting Daily we look at Georgia’s defensive line recruiting.
Georgia currently has three defensive tackle prospects committed for the 2018 class and include Mallard Creek High School defensive tackle Josh Davis, Liberty County’s Tramel Walthour, and JUCO prospect DeVonte Wyatt. The Bulldogs also have two defensive ends currently committed with Marietta’s Azeez Ojulari and Ocean Lake High School’s Jaevon Becton out of Virginia Beach, VA; although, Ojulari is more of a hybrid DE/OLB. So are the Bulldogs done with the D-line?
I don’t think so. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Georgia coaching staff add at least one more defensive tackle prospect to this recruiting class as well as at least one more DE if not two. Let’s take a look at four potential prospects that include Christian Barmore, Robert Cooper, Brenton Cox, and Jackson Cravens.
TODAY’S FEATURED PROSPECTS
If position ranking is noted, unless otherwise stated, it is 247 Sports latest composite ranking of the player.
CHRISTIAN BARMORE

HT, WT: 6 foot 5.5, and 292 lbs

NEWS & NOTES: Since UGA offered Christian Barmore back on Oct. 2nd, his recruitment has literally exploded. The Philadelphia, PA prospect has received over 12 offers since the Bulldogs offered. He had been committed to Temple but de-committed from the Owls on Oct. 6th. Barmore has not set a date to make his final decision nor is know if he will sign during the early signing period or not. He took an official visit to Baylor over the weekend on Dec. 1st and still has four other official visits he can take.
Barmore is a physical specimen at nearly 6 foot 6 and 292 lbs and is athletic for a player his size. However, he has only been playing football for about a year; so, he is still raw but his potential is sky high.

NEWS & NOTES: Robert Cooper has been committed to Florida State since last June, but the Georgia coaching staff offered him in January and have been busy trying to make up ground in his recruitment. So what are Georgia’s chances of flipping Cooper?
With the job Coach Tray Scott has done with the Dogs’ D-line, it has made prospects like Cooper stand up and take notice. Georgia got him on campus for a visit on Oct. 14th for the Missouri game, and with Jimbo Fisher’s departure from FSU to Texas A&M, it makes the chance of flipping Cooper even higher. Whether or not he does so just depends on how happy is with FSU and the coaching staff that the Seminoles bring in.
If the Bulldogs can flip Cooper, he very well could be the heir apparent to John Atkins at nose guard for Georgia for the next several years. He’ll need to come in and do some work in the strength and conditioning programs, think of him as Solomon Kindley when he came to UGA but just on the other side of the ball.
Cooper is not planning on signing during the early signing period, waiting to do so on Feb. 7th, 2018. And he will not be an early enrollee.

BRENTON COX

HT, WT: 6 foot 4.5, and 247 lbs
SCHOOL: Stockbridge High School
CITY, STATE: Stockbridge, GA
STATUS: Committed to Ohio State
UGA OFFER: Yes, offered on 01/26/2017.
# OFFERS: 25
NEWS & NOTES: Brenton Cox has been verbally committed to Ohio State since April 25, 2017 even though he was considering UGA at the time. While it has been thought that Cox would be a long shot to flip from the Buckeyes, I have maintained that there has always been the potential that he could do so. The Georgia coaching staff have continued to recruit one of the top 20 players in the nation. The good news here is that recruiting has paid off as Cox decided to visit Athens for the Bulldogs final home game of the season versus of Kentucky instead of visiting Alabama.
And Georgia will get him on campus one more time for an official. Cox is set to take an official visit to UGA on Dec. 15th. Alabama is also still in the race, though, and he took an official visit to the Crimson Tide this past weekend on Dec. 1st. The Stockbridge High School star plans to take an official visit Ohio State this weekend on Dec. 8th. Brenton Cox is planning to sign during the early signing period between Dec. 20-22, and he also plans to enroll early.

JACKSON CRAVENS
CLASS: 2018
POSITION: DL – No. 47 DT
HT, WT: 6 foot 3, and 275 lbs
SCHOOL: Timpview High School
CITY, STATE: Provo, UT
STATUS: Undeclared
UGA OFFER: Yes, offered on August 6th.
# OFFERS: 19
NEWS & NOTES: Georgia offered Cravens on Aug. 6th and while Utah and Washington are both favored landing spots for the Timpview HS big man and several other Western U.S. programs have recruited him heavily, his recruitment is still wide open. Cravens listed the Bulldogs in his top 7 schools that he released on Twitter on Nov. 6th along with Arizona, Michigan State, Oregon, Utah, Vanderbilt, and Washington.
He has taken one official visit this fall that I know of and that was to Michigan State on Sept. 22nd. Cravens plans on taken an official visit to Washington soon and Georgia is also pushing for an official from the Provo, UT big man.
His tape looks good, and as a junior, Cravens had 160 tackles, 20 for a loss, and 13 QB sacks. Those are impressive stats, even if the competition isn’t as stout as some of the other high school classifications and regions around the country in states like California, Florida, Georgia, and Texas.
