Today on Bulldawg Illustrated’s UGA Recruiting Daily we look at Georgia’s 2018 wide receiver recruiting and five prospects – Chase Cota, Jatavious Harris, Jalen Jordan, James Mitchell, and Jordan Young.

 

With 18 commitments for 2018 and with two of those being receivers, how many more pass catchers will the Georgia coaching staff look to add? At least one and possibly two more. Georgia has the luxury of being picky here with commitments already from four-star, 5 foot 11.5, 203 lbs Kearis Jackson out of Peach County High School and four-star, 5 foot 11, 181 lbs Elijah Moore out of St. Thomas Aquinas.

 

With the upheaval at Florida currently, I have been asked if there any chance of flipping any of the Gators’ current commitments? UF does have two WR commits that the Georgia coaching staff would likely welcome with open arms if they were to choose to flip in JaMarr Chase and Jacob Copeland. However, the chances of that happening I think are remote at this point and time. I also think if Chase were to flip it would likely be to TCU or possibly LSU. Copeland’s next choice after Florida would likely be Alabama.

 

Georgia currently has 11 receivers on the roster on scholarship, and the only one they will lose after this season is senior Javon Wims, but in 2019, they have four wideouts that will be seniors; so, over the next two seasons, they will lose almost half of their receiving corps to graduation.

CHASE COTA

NEWS & NOTES: Cota is a talented wide out from the West Coast that the Georgia staff offered back in April. Is Cota interested in UGA? He put the Dogs in his top 7 schools on June 27th. So far this fall, the South Medford receiver has taking an official visit to Notre Dame back on Sept. 9th, when the Bulldogs and Irish faced off in South Bend, and he also took an official to UCLA on Sept. 30th. His recruiting is wide open, but Oregon and UCLA appear to be the two top teams at the moment. In the end, don’t be surprised if Cota will stay home and pick the Ducks, though.

JATAVIOUS HARRIS

NEWS & NOTES: The Georgia coaching staff offered Harris back in February, and the talented Milledgeville wideout committed to SEC East rival Tennessee a couple of months later in April. Harris Tweeted out on his Twitter account on Monday, October 2nd that he was reopening his recruitment to all schools, just two day after the Bulldogs’ gave the Volunteers a 41-0 beatdown. He stay committed to UTenn up until Oct. 25th when he announced he would be de-committing from the Vols. The big question now is what Harris plans to do because he’s been very quiet since his de-commitment to UTenn.

NEWS & NOTES: Jordan is a big, tall receiver that the Dogs offered back in the spring and is similar to Georgia’s 2017 signee Matt Landers. As of right now, it looks like a three school race for Jordan between the Bulldogs, GT, and Tennessee.

JAMES MITCHELL

POSITION: TE/WR – No. 59 WR

NEWS & NOTES: UGA offered Mitchell back on May 18th, and the Big Stone Gap receiver put the Dogs in his top five on July 20th. He is a name you may not have heard much of, but he put the Bulldogs in his top three on Sunday, Nov. 5th along with Duke and VT. This is an interesting one to keep an eye because Mitchell is not unlike Charlie Woerner in build; so, the question is whether or not he will play receiver in college or morph into a TE?
 
I learned my lesson with emphatically insisting Woerner would stay a WR, and boy was I wrong on that one. In other words, it would not surprise me to see Mitchell develop into a TE. Either way, he is a big receiving target who is physical and can line up at either position and be affective. And he is a heck of an athlete. Mitchell lined up at QB for the Union HS this season when their starting QB went down with an injury. The big man is also a pretty good basketball player.

JORDAN YOUNG

CITY, STATE: Conyers, GA

NEWS & NOTES: Young finished the Georgia high school football regular season as the Peach State leading receiver for 2017 with 1,338 yards and 16 receiving TDs on 56 catches in ten games just ahead of Tift County’s Rashod Bateman. At 6 foot 3 and 190 lbs and a reported 4.46 forty, it is a wonder why Young doesn’t have more offers, but I think that can be attributed to the fact that this is the first season where he has been “the man” at WR at Heritage.
 
He hasn’t camped a lot either. Young has visited UGA. He was in Athens for Georgia’s game versus Mississippi State on Sept. 23rd. If young has the academics and test scores to go along with what he has done on the field this season, look for some more offers to start to come his way as a number of programs are showing interest. Young has big, strong hands that he uses to snatch the ball out of the air with. He does a good job of adjusting to the ball, and he knows how to use his height and length to go up and get the ball at its highest point.
 
Young and (6-4) Heritage will face Region 4’s (8-3) Stephenson in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.
