Still out and about with the misses at the docs but wanted to check in with everyone and see how your Tuesday afternoon was going?

2. Doc R

DawgByte Doc R freddawg agreed—I just admire the guy so had to say something positive—but still true

3. MMCSDAWG

Can’t wait to hear how his first full speed scrimmage goes. Once he trusts it like Gurley told him. It’s game on and we all know what he can do! I think he will peak just in time for retribution against UTk!

1mandawgpack dsw61 Yeah, 190 is a little short. 200 feet seems to be the norm. The umpire is responsible for making sure the balls are within the regulations. If I were the coach and noticed, I would have gone to the umpire; reported it; and made sure the correct balls were used. Seems like lower compression would make the balls less lively though; unless they were literally using rubberized balls which would be potentially dangerous for the fielders.

5. DawgByte

Doc R DawgByte freddawg That’s why I said 95%. I think physically he’ll be close to 100% by the opener, the other 5% is just ring rust and as you say that will take a quarter or two to get his game awareness back.

6. DawgByte

Bulldawg Bob2 Sometimes you have to make exceptions and in this case they should be going hard after Jamyest. He’s the real deal.

7. DawgByte

Bulldawg Bob2 I just applied for a Custodial Artisan position at the Tri-Delt house. I told them I did not own a cell phone with a video camera!

8. Doc R

DawgByte freddawg The BIG difference here is that we are talking about NICHOLAS CHUBB baby!!!!!! Beast like none other. Arrived in Athens in beast mode, I have NO doubt that he will be back to form. However, after not playing, rehabbing, etc, realistically it will take a few carries and such to get totally back but I DO NOT DOUBT THAT HE CAN DO IT—–because it’s NICK CHUBB!!!!

9. DawgByte

freddawg Hard to say, but if he can be at 95% by the opener that’s 95% better than most RB’s in the country.

Greg Poole From reading Smith’s comments today, it sounds like his family is preparing to file a lawsuit. I doubt the NCAA or the SEC wants to see that happens because it opens up a lot of issues. Wouldn’t be settled in time for Smith to play this year at UGA, obviously, but he could potentially win a big settlement against Alabama and the league.

11. Hobnailboot aka RobG

freddawg I think he needs a cuople of games to get his mind right, I have no doubt physically he’ll be ready, but Lattimore made the comment that the mental part is the hardest so I think it takes a couple of games at least

Frankly Quarterback situation is so unsettled, it makes our offense hard to predict. Last year I was pretty dang certain we would have an effective passing game and it turned out to be ineffective. We definitely have the weapons to field a very good offense, but with a new staff and possibly QB, I’m keeping my expectations grounded until I see them execute.

13. BMacDawg87

Greg Poole He also specifically said he disagrees how Saban is handling the situation and that it’s his belief that once a kid earns his degree and serves his commitment to that school, he should be able to go wherever he chooses… for anyone still comparing this to Turman.

14. freddawg

What’s the consensus on Chubb? Start the season as good as ever, or need some time to get back to form? I don’t think he’ll be 100% from the outset. Close probably, but between the mental and physical aspect probably take a few games.

I was thinking about Chaney’s comments the other day which made me wonder if this year, despite all of the question marks, is the most talent he has had to work with at the college level. The 2012 Tennessee was his most productive team produced the following draft picks off of that team.

1st Round OT, WR
2nd Round WR
3rd Round OG
6th Round OL, TE

They were strong at WR and OL but I feel pretty confident that this years Georgia is overall more talented, deeper, and definitely more balanced. I’m thinking Chaney is, for the most part, pretty confident that he can field an effective offense.

1mandawgpack dsw61 My daughter played through HS as well, we ran into a similar situation once, but our coach wasn’t having none of it! He let everyone and their brother know… Not sure which reaction is best. If the home team had said something before the game and we agreed upon it, that’s fine, but if I only find out after watching balls fly like ducks, then I’m probably going to let everyone know about it as well!

Your right, pitching is the key and you need at least 2 aces! We had one year with 2 aces and her team made it to the state finals. The next year one of the aces graduated and it was a mediocre season!

17. 1mandawgpack

dsw61 you’ll get a kick out of this. My daughter’s team had its first high school softball game last night. We played at the other unnamed team’s home field, and their fence was a little shorter than regulation (I was told by one of the other team’s parents that it was 190 feet), but it had a 15+ foot outfield fence (which should have gotten it a bit closer to “regulation”). Every time a girl hit a ball hard, it sounded as if they were hitting a rubber ball (and I remember this from our game there last year as well). So, with all of my best James Bond/Jason Bourne skills, I investigated by chasing down a foul ball only to discover that we were playing with a “reduced compression” softball (both teams were playing with the same ball, so no advantage to either team). However, the GHSA has approved a standard ball that is supposed to be used in all games, so our coach was debating whether or not to report the matter. My daughter hit an absolute bomb that bounced off the middle part of the left/center field fence, but would have been a HR by about 20 feet on a regulation field. So we were disappointed in that, even though we were thrilled with a “W” as I think they will be few and far between this year as we lack pitching quality in a serious way and have joined a much tougher overall region.

He don’t need to talk to corchNicky Sabath anyways. They don’t work together anymore

dsw61 1mandawgpack freddawg Score Check MMCSDAWG I watched every one of Archer’s games that were televised. JW was, by far, the best overall player on a team that was supposedly loaded with players. I forget who they lost to, but in my humble opinion, the rest of the team gave up and JW was, in effect, having to try to win the game by himself. That was the night when I decided that I wouldn’t be too disappointed in us missing on virtually all of the Archer players included Price, Davis, etc.
My point is this – what JW lacks in physical attributes, he more than makes up for in determination, hard work, athleticism and the “it” factor to virtually always be around the ball. As I’ve said on here multiple times before, I trust our coaches and their evaluation process, but JW will be a playmaker for someone and I think he’ll end up being a very similar player as the Honey Badger.

Speaking to SiriusXM radio in an interview with Andy Staples and Chris Carlin that aired on Tuesday, Smart put it this way about his interaction now with Saban: “To be honest with you, since I’ve been here leading this program, I’m concerned with this program and I know he’s concerned with the same. He’s doing what he’s got to do to make the University of Alabama the best. I’m doing what I’ve got to do to make the University of Georgia the best. That’s ultimately two separate entities so there’s not a lot of conversation back and forth.”

Speaking about Smith, who graduated Saturday, Smart called it a “situation that’s kind of fluid and it’s ever-changing so we’re kind of going with the flow.”

21. jwp1983

Greg Poole I sure do hate it for that kid. Unfortunately, I don’t think his wishes will be accommodated.

22. MMCSDAWG

AlphaDawg Bulldawg Bob2 You familiar with where the Butler Building is on Milledge? Well that where I had the envious duty of being stationed back in the early 90’s as a Navy recruiter! It was the best view in town! We had some crazy groupies that loved a man in uniform!

23. Bulldawg36

To be the man you got to beat the man!!!! Wooooooooooo!!!! UGA is attacking the day. I’m ready to put a whooping on unc!!!!!

1mandawgpack freddawg Score Check MMCSDAWG Watch his last HS game last year…playoff game. He was taking a lot more punishment than he was giving out. He was clearly hurting by the end of the game.

After their scrimmage today, Auburn fans seem to think Sean White is in the lead position to win the qb job. Could be wrong, but to me that kid looks like Aaron Murray without the arm strength. Plus, the rumor I’ve seen on more than one Auburn message board is that he has quite a fondness for a partying. He’s supposed to be pretty accurage, but it’s hard to see how his height, build, speed, and arm will work for Malzahn, especially since they don’t have the makings of a great running game.
