Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

deltonadawg The biggest thing Sony said in the spring that caught my attention was his comment about the coaches taking time to walk through the plays and him understanding the finer points like “where his blocks are coming from”. I almost fell out of my chair when I read that quote. There have also been quotes from offensive players talking about how the coaches on the offensive side of the ball are teaching concepts…IOW they’re teaching the “why”. Tie that in to what Sony said about knowing where his blocks are coming from and you can piece together a scenario at practice where the coaches are telling Sony which gaps he’s most likely to find space to run based on where his blocks are coming from. Which in turn allows him to better visualize how the play is most likely to unfold. It’s the equivalent of him mentally sitting up in the booth watching the play unfold. Pruitt did the same thing with the defense. He taught concepts.

deltonadawg I just hope the offense is more versatile and more explosive!  I know we are young and I expect a freshman to be playing QB, but dangit, I want to see an offense that can score points in a HURRY if needed.  Turnovers are going to happen, whether we play conservatively or not.  I look forward to seeing what Chaney and crew can do with the talent we have on offensive side of the ball.  GATA!

AlphaDawg Greg Poole his Mantra…  “Change the Game” is what likened me to him so much!  Plus he is doing a great job on the recruiting trail.

AlphaDawg deltonadawg This is what Sony said in the article.  This playbook’s a little bit different, it’s a little more challenging,” Michel said. “Some of the schemes from previous years we could kind of put things together and be like, `I’ve got this on this.’ This year it’s totally different. You’ve got to focus, you’ve got to pay attention even when you’re tired.’”

deltonadawg Good question that I cant answer, however its my understanding from things I have read that we have excellent “teaching” coaches. Like any subject the perception of difficulty is often dictated by the student. If these guys can “teach” as well as folks say they can, I dont think it will be an issue. I was kind of suprised when I watched a show on Brett Favre the other day. A year or two into his packer stint (yes 4 years of college and 1-2 in the NFL) heasked a teammate what “nickle” meant in coverage….sooo lets sit back and see how the team grasps this new O.

deltonadawg Haven’t read the article, but just answering your question, from what I’ve read about Chaney is his known ability of using people where they can make plays. I’ve read he’s very creative which creates headaches because you may never see it all season to prepare.

So is the offense more complicated this year? http://onlineathens.com/sports/college-sports/2016-06-07/bielema-expects-%E2%80%98good-results%E2%80%99-former-arkansas-assistants-chaney

Greg Poole Isn’t  every team a pretender until they actually win the championship?

Congrats to the Lady Sooners for beating the aubies for the women’s softball National Title.  That makes me happy.
