Here’s a closer look at the earlier Ramsey photo:
Hobnailboot aka RobG PatriotVeteran DawgByte I don’t make “Decisions”, I make opinions, just like you. I never did say Lambert shouldn’t start, just my opinion that Eason shouldn’t be on the sideline if he’s equal to or even possibly better in some ways than Lambert. Whatever CKS decision is, will be just fine with me, I only give my opinion as 1 fan of the many. I respect others opinions and don’t mind comments that disagree with me. Our main goal is to win and whatever decision CKS makes on who plays have nothing to do with my simple opinions. Have a nice day.

When Smart said he wasn’t ready to cut this down to a two-man battle, we take him at his word, especially based on what those at the scrimmage saw.Brice Ramsey, widely thought to be third in the pecking order, had the best day. Not spectacular, we’re told, but good. Jacob Eason, on the other hand, didn’t have as good a day. At least a couple interceptions. If he had played like that on G-Day, there wouldn’t be the wide clamor for him to start the opener. Greyson Lambert didn’t get as many reps, from what we heard, but that may be because the coaches know what they have in him and want to see what Ramsey and Eason can do. So far, it seems, Ramsey is giving Smart and Jim Chaney something to think about, while Eason shows flashes of greatness, but also reminds you occasionally that he’s a freshman. Lambert continues to be the one who knows and runs the offense the best.

1mandawgpack PatriotVeteran DawgByte Hobnailboot aka RobG Your opinions are great. We all have opinions and mine is based on the info provided by reporters that Eason is not listed at the bottom, so I assume, he’s doing just fine. However, you don’t get experience sitting. You get it by doing your best and having team confidence in each other. A great pass can be dropped by the WR or fall short and intercepted. It’s a game of who makes the least mistakes and is mostly defined in the successful execution of a planned play, but even than, mistakes happen.
Have a great day RobG.
“It Damn Sho Can Be Us!” “Take No Prisoners!”
PatriotVeteran Hobnailboot aka RobG DawgByte If they are reading our comments how do you think Lambert feels about yours?
Hobnailboot aka RobG PatriotVeteran DawgByte It only can be “IF’s” because it’s hasn’t been played, but our players read our comments and the lease I can do, is show I for one respect their hard work and know they’ll give it their all. I’m also only giving my opinion, that doesn’t mean a darn thing, but I’ve got hope and will support them in game 2 and the rest of the season, regardless of the first game outcome.
It’s only my opinion and I respect your’s. GO DAWGS
PatriotVeteran DawgByte Hobnailboot aka RobG Based on this philosophy, the coaches should just automatically award the starting job to any incoming freshman who was ranked higher than the current starter because, what if they’re able to make big plays.
CKS wants to build a team full of quality depth. Why? Because competition every day in practice is what drives improvement and if the young men who win the starting jobs and significant playing time are competing against our own players who aren’t seeing much playing time but who are likely just as good, if not better, than the other team’s starters, it significantly improves our chances of winning and being successful.
Again, not trying to bash the former staff, but when, for example, the program is only signing 2 or 3 OL per year, on average, some of whom are “projects,” it’s no wonder that our OL has been very average for the past couple of years because there is no quality competition occurring during practice.

It’s great to hear about the immediate impact of this 2016 recruiting class. We’ve got some real studs that are really playing hard and showing great effort. I think Kirby is very proud of this new group of players.
Listen to what Kirby says about the OL, sounds like they’ve got a ways to go before they’re playing as a cohesive unit.

freddawg 1mandawgpack I said on here a few days ago that Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have experienced so much success in the NFL due to their ability to know, when walking to the line of scrimmage and seeing the defensive formation, which WR will likely be open. The Pat’s are unbelievable to me because, regardless of who they put on the OL, Brady almost never gets sacked. That’s not because of Brady’s mobility, but because he knows where he’s going with the ball before the snap ever occurs. Murray was much the same at UGA because of his tremendous game preparation, which slowed the game down considerably for him and allowed him to be successful despite not being the biggest guy in the world or having the strongest arm.
PatriotVeteran Hobnailboot aka RobG freddawg DawgByte ronaldo77 I’d like to see Eason start as well, but not until the staff feels he is ready, if that is the UNC game great if not then I’m fine with that as well
Hobnailboot aka RobG PatriotVeteran freddawg DawgByte ronaldo77 As a fan, I’d like to see Eason start, but I will support CKS decision for whatever choices he makes. UGA hired him and he’s the man to lead the way. It’s just that the first game is non-conference and it’s both teams first game, so both team will probably make mistakes. It’s also a great time to use and give experience to some new players who will give 100 play percent. Everything will work itself out and regardless of outcome, I will remain a loyal UGA Fan. GO DAWGS
PatriotVeteran DawgByte Hobnailboot aka RobG I’m not opposed to Jacob getting PT against UNC. In fact I hope he plays, I just don’t believe he’s ready to start and carry the offense for the UNC game. I’d rather see him worked into the starting role over several games. I agree with RobG, I want to win and I’m sure the players want to win as well.
Recruiting is also dependent on winning and I think some of the top tier talent is looking to see improvement from this program. I think CKS is going to do everything to put us in position to win. If Lambert starts it’s because they believe Grayson gives us the best chance to succeed.
DawgByte There are two scrimmages (but the next one will be huge) to go and CKS said after the scrimmage that he does not see one QB separating himself. My experience with so far is that he is straightforward with his answers. In other words, if Eason’s interceptions had moved Lambert well ahead, CKS would have said so.
I’m not saying you are wrong about the eventual outcome, however.
http://bulldawgillustrated.com/quarterbacks-stand-scrimmage-one-coach-smart/
PatriotVeteran freddawg DawgByte ronaldo77 so does that mean you are going to support the decision to start Lambert if that is what gets decided?
freddawg DawgByte ronaldo77 We are going to start the season with the players we got and some new coaching, so let’s talk positive about winning. We’ve got enough great players to win and if we lose, it means the other team just beat us, but at least let’s be honest. We have enough great players to win and we have great coaches getting them ready to play. IMO, Stop looking for excuses and give the players and coaches some backing and let them know they are supported. Everything will fall in place once the first snap or kick off starts. Hopefully, UGA will beat UNC and all the chatter will be ended one way or the other. CKS and UGA will do us proud. GO DAWGS
1mandawgpack
Work ethic has been mentioned in Ramsey’s case a few times. I have no idea or personal knowledge, but I wish we had a guy like Aaron Murray to act as a role model for all our qb’s. His quick decision making was due to dedicated preparation, and it showed every time he took a snap.
Greg Poole
Greg Poole My precious.
PatriotVeteran DawgByte Hobnailboot aka RobG Since we are playing the “IF” game what if his first play from scrimmage is a fumble that gets scooped and scored for a TD, then the next series he throws a pick 6. I want Wins not losses, so I disagree with you wholeheartedly
DawgByte Hobnailboot aka RobG – Eason has been at UGA since January and done a lot of work in learning the game and working with his WR’s. Eason can’t get experience standing on the sideline. Once the first snap is made, his experience and confidence will be growing with each snap. What if his first snap goes for a touchdown or big play ? Give him a chance in this non-conference game to do what Stafford couldn’t do, BE A STARTER.
if UGA can’t win with Eason, even in our first game, they probably won’t win with Lambert either. We can look for excuses, but you never can know “What IF” until you try what you should be doing first, start a new year of Winning Football Games and seeing where it leads us. Is we win, than the first choice will be wonderful. If we lose, than probably we would have lost even when starting Lambert. It’s football, lets play football and see who has the best team and stop making excuses.
Eason will do us proud, even if he makes mistakes, we need to show our support for the new coaches and football team. Start with the players that can generate some pride in our “New Team, Players and Coaches”. Stop looking for excuses, play football.
DawgByte dsw61 Bansai buckeroo HIs long standing issue is his lack of willingness to put in the time in the film room learning to break down defenses (or lack of mental capacity to comprehend what he’s watching and trying to learn), which puts him in a position where he tries to rely too heavily on his arm strength for success. While we never had a fighting chance to win the ‘Bama game last year, his pick 6 immediately after halftime and then his second pick deep in our own territory almost immediately afterwards sealed our fate in that game and basically, caused me to lose all faith in his ability to lead our offense. Perhaps a new coaching staff with different schemes and developmental techniques have resulted in improvement, but I won’t believe it until I see it.
DawgByte ronaldo77 I guess it depends on what you mean by thin. For example, at ILB’er we have probably 9 or 10 guys who could play that position. R. Carter, Smith, Patrick, Rankin, Laguins, Manac, McGee, O’Neal, Amaechi, Brown. Wouldn’t be ideal, but it is depth.
When I think of true lack of depth, I think of something like 2006 where we had a shortage of healthy guys who had ever played the linebacker position.
Hobnailboot aka RobG DawgByte Many high schools tend to run very basic, mostly zone coverage schemes, which helps a QB with a decent OL, decent WR and a good arm look great. These more complex, often disguised coverage schemes at the college level take a while to get used to and a QB can no longer primarily rely on his arm strength for success. Assuming he has the work ethic to put in the time in the film room and will learn from those having vast experience, Eason will be a beast, but needs time to develop. If inserted into the starting roll, I’m sure that he’ll make some phenomenal throws, but I also think he’ll be prone to throw some pick 6s when a defense confuses him. It’s a benefit/cost analysis, but I’m not sure CKS, particularly with has background at ‘Bama, is going to be will to trade off a few great throws a game for a costly INT, but that’s just my guess.
Right Byte….his throwing ability has never been the issue…his decision making is another matter..
Greg Poole I sure hope this kid commits to the G! I don’t care how tall he is, when you’re a baller, you’re a baller and he’s most definitely a baller and someone that would help our D for many years to come.
dsw61 Bansai buckeroo The issue with Ramsey isn’t his throwing motion. IMO he throws a beautiful and effortless ball. His long standing issue is confidence and the ability to own the huddle and make the right split second decisions.
Hobnailboot aka RobG DawgByte I agree with you.
freddawg ronaldo77 IMO we’re thin at OT, ILB, Center, DL and certain special team players (Punter & Placekicker). We’ve got a ways to go. The 2017 class is a step in the right direction.
DawgByte Hobnailboot aka RobG no argument here, the less pressure Eason has the better IMO
Hobnailboot aka RobG DawgByte I get it… we’re all looking for the next WOW guy; Matt Stafford, and I want that too, but I’m also realistic and pragmatic. Very few freshmen can come in and compete at the same level of success they had while at HS. The leap in talent is exponential and the game is so much more complex and faster. I want Jacob to be put in a position to succeed. He’ll get there we just need to be patient. In the mean time we’ll have to deal with slow and methodical Lambert.
ronaldo77 It’s more of a quality of depth problem at most positions this season. The only spot that looks really thin is DL. If we get a couple of injuries or suspensions there, they may have to move an OL over.
ronaldo77 A few of those smaller classes, when coupled with the disappointment that was the 2013 recruiting class, has left very few seniors and juniors in our ranks, for sure.
DawgByte sup DB, I agree about Lambert, he seems to make the correct calls at the line and recognizes the blitz fairly well, if the OL can gel and give him more time he is capable of getting us the W, he’s just not going to WOW anybody with his arm strength and that’s fine
ed603 Mornin!
ronaldo77 Agree! I wouldn’t say Richt left the cupboard bare, but he left it pretty thin.
Good morning everyone!
Greg I just read your post below about the QB’s. I know there’s another scrimmage to go, but I think the chapter on the QB situation is about completed with Grayson Lambert as our starter for the UNC game. Eason threw 2 picks in yesterday’s scrimmage, which did nothing to help his cause. Ramsey has talent, but has proven over the years to be inconsistent and massively prone to throwing costly INTs, so I do not believe he’s going to win the starting role. I think at the end of the day they’re going to choose the guy who knows the offense, can lead the huddle and take care of the football.
*Remember, Stafford didn’t start until halfway into his Freshman season. From the reports it doesn’t seem like Jacob is ready yet and that’s okay. I’d rather he be given time to work his way into the starting role instead of heaping a ton of pressure on him right out of the gate. In the end it’s about the W and not just one guy.
ronaldo77 that will be nice
I cant wait till we have a few recruiting classes under Kirby and we can stop hearing about “depth issues” at almost every position. A man can dream, right?
His opportunity for immediate playing time is greater USCe. That cub board is pretty bare. But would love to have him.
Good morning, RobG!
