Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

This is a tough one to pick, if I’m being honest. My first choice if you’d have asked me three months ago likely would have been Georgia. I can’t help but think Kirby Smart is going to do a great job over there, and he had some solid returning depth along the offensive line and in the running back corps, with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. But now that running back depth is in jeopardy, with Chubb still assumedly recovering from his season-ending injury last year, and Michel sustaining a bad break (sorry for the pun) of his own. That, plus an undefined situation at quarterback set Georgia back, at least in my perception.
I honestly don’t understand the premature crowing of Tennessee. Yeah, they have some players. But I’ve yet to be blown away by anything Butch Jones has done since he’s been there. They’re still Tennessee. They are so far removed from greatness that I don’t even think they know what it takes to be great anymore, and how to deal with greatness when they step in it.

DawgDaddy AlphaDawg And he’s prone to blowing a game or two…  That’s where I believe they will falter.  They haven’t beaten UF in 11 seasons, Alabama has dominated them, UGA has beat them 5 out of the last 6 years.
Talent matters, but coaching does as well.   It might not be 50/50 in importance overall, but when a game is close and your in the 4th Qtr, coaching becomes as important if not more important than talent.  IMO of course.  And this is where UTk is vulnerable.  The collapse against UF last year was epic Bootch..

Greg Poole Thank you Lord!  It’s only a matter of weeks now!  AMEN!  Time to GATA and #ATD everyday!

Tomorrow (CKS Camp) is kinda the start of the season for me, Media Days will be over and practice will start a couple of weeks after the end of the camp. FOOTBALL IS ALMOST HERE!

  5. DawgDaddy

AlphaDawg I have been telling everyone that this is Booch’s only chance for a while.  If they blow it this year he won’t be coaching ewe tee when 2018 season starts,  IMO.

deltonadawg ed603  I see. We just lost our American Bulldog that you see in my avatar. She was a wonderful family member! Part English bull and part boxer, with the best traits of both. We rescued her in Atlanta 8 or so years ago. She looked a lot like Munson, who by the way is a beautiful dog!

I just went back the past 10 years to look at the recruiting rankings in search of when Bama became the #1, It seemed most teams within the top 5 for a consistant period would be the teams who competed at major bowls and championships. But what really caught my attention was the spike in UT recruiting.
    2013 – #10 in SEC (4-4stars, 18-3stars)
2014 – #5 in SEC (16-4stars, 16-3stars) – Large class which pushed them up but noticeably better
    2015 – #2 in SEC (1-5tar, 15-4stars, 12-3stars) – Another large class but better than 2014
2016 – #7 in SEC (10-4stars, 11-3stars) a noticeable dip when the class size had to go back to normal
    2017 – Currently 5th in SEC (2-4stars, 16-3stars)

It’s obvious we’re getting to play their well seasoned 2014,2015 guys now, which will fade. If UT has a bad year in recruiting this year, which I believe they will if they don’t win the SEC east, they will slump again in recruiting which shows their program slips too. Their 2017 class is not looking great this year so far, however, Jones has been known to cut a scholarship from a guy weeks before signing day. If we beat them this year and I think UGA stays recruiting at a very high level above them, therefore we go back to our dominance.

The SC game was a mirage.  They had their DB’s playing 10 yards off of our WR’s and you know Bama or noone else in the SEC was going to do the same.

  9. Bansai buckeroo

@DDaddy…Colin’s told Jeff Sentell Georgia was his #2 school….sounds like we have a shot.

  10. deltonadawg

ed603 deltonadawg No he is an old English bulldog. It is a recognized breed of English bulldog. They have less of the health problems than the modern bulldogs.

DawgDaddy Greg Poole The whole arrest thing is a joke.  Every school has different circumstances that are going to result in either more or less arrests.  Wasn’t it Florida a few years back under Urban Myer that announced like 60 arrests in one day that had not been made public.

  12. Greg Poole

AlphaDawg I don’t think anyone seriously thinks he would be a QB at UGA, including Bishop.

  13. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole AlphaDawg Then forget what I said ronaldo77 – I’m just a dummy with a keyboard

  14. Bansai buckeroo

Low 90’s in Atlanta today ed……but it’s the humidity that is brutal…

  15. Greg Poole

ronaldo77 I don’t look at him as a QB even though Kirby has talked to him about QB, WR and DB.

  16. AlphaDawg

MMCSDAWG AlphaDawg dsw61 I agree that he should get the start. I’m just not used to getting what I want. lol

  17. Bulltoad

AlphaDawg dsw61 My belief is still Lambert is 3rd behind Eason and Ramsey and it comes down to mobility.  I remember last year going into the Alabama game and the analysts discussing Lambert who was coming off the incredible performance against South Carolina.  The only question the analyst had was can Lambert throw on the move or without a clean pocket.  Unless Lambert has suddenly become mobile I don’t think he has a chance.  If you watch any football game the QB is constantly having to move to make throws.

  18. MMCSDAWG

AlphaDawg dsw61 Teams have tons of film on Lambert, they know his strengths and his weaknesses.  Teams know his tendencies and his limitations.  Without Chubb and Michel, UGA may have to score a few more points.  I believe we will still be able to run the ball, Hell, they gave up 327 yds rushing against Duke, they gave up 308 rushing against NCST.  So no matter who’s running the ball, I believe we can run successfully, but without the two horses, we will need to throw the ball More.   For those reasons I am sticking with Eason as our starter.  He might throw and interception or two, but he might also throw for 2-3 more TD’s than Lambert.  I don’t expect Eason to come out and be anything like Stafford was.  I fully expect that Eason is capable of a 3-1 TD to interception ratio.   Not the other way around like Stafford.   Just my .02 cents.

  19. DawgDaddy

AlphaDawg The QB lure is strong though.  I thought he looked good in his vid but all of these kids what to go to the show and not many are good enough athletes to play QB in college and then transition to DB, WR or TE in the pros.  Nick Marshall is the exception rather than the rule.

  20. ronaldo77

Greg Poole Man, quite a few people on this list did not live up to the hype. Miller, had all the phyical tools but just could not play well and switched positions 3 times. Ray Drew was mostly a bust and Tj Stripling was never healthy, and I dont think ever weighed over 200 Ilbs

  21. AlphaDawg

ronaldo77 Greg Poole Bishop would be a WR at UGA. He’s an Auburn lean bc they’re telling him he could come in as a QB, but they’ll put him at WR most likely too.

  22. AlphaDawg

dsw61 As much as I’m okay with throwing caution to the wind and saying Start Eason, I still deep down think Lambert will get the start. BUT that’s my safe mentality I would have with Richt coaching, Smart may surprise me.

  23. ronaldo77

Greg Poole Would this have any affect on TL? Or were we always taking 2 QBs this year?

  24. ronaldo77

DawgDaddy AlphaDawg Gatorade just tastes so much better…. powerade tastes like ass IMO

  25. DawgDaddy

AlphaDawg The endorsement, I would never buy a Gatorade, UF gets some of the profits.  PowerAid is a Coke produce and Coke is a Georgia company.  Simple choice IMO.

  26. DawgDaddy

    dsw61 Mobility=Ramsey>Eason>Ramsey.

When pure talent is thrown in the choice is clearly Eason IMO.
