Avon Barksdale  Good call. Davis moved from free safety to SLB during his redshirt sophomore season in 2003, but Van Gorder would move him around in his defense to get the most out of ’em.

  2. Avon Barksdale

I can think of another great UGA linebacker that played some safety as well – plays for the Carolina Panthers now!
Although if I remember correctly, he moved from LB to safety?

  3. Bulldawg Bob2

RumRunnerDoogie Bulldawg Bob2  Aye. I agree. Could really see him as a shorter version of Alec Ogletree, which is what Roquan Smith reminds of me really.

If either Roundtree and Smith come close to what Ogletree did and does at ILB, oh baby!

  4. Bulldawg Bob2

RumRunnerDoogie Bulldawg Bob2  I only did it a few times, and only because my legs were screaming at me; however, my track coach was not happy. It isn’t really good to do because you can get hurt doing it.

You will see a lot of sprinters lunge forward with their head though that last 2 or 3 meters though.

  5. RumRunnerDoogie

Bulldawg Bob2 RumRunnerDoogie he would need to be at LB, he will surely out grow safety quickly.  if he can pick it up quickly ILB wont be a issue based off potential

  6. Bulldawg Bob2

RumRunnerDoogie Bulldawg Bob2  I could see him being 225 to 230 lbs as a junior next year if he stays at that ILB position.

  7. RumRunnerDoogie

Bulldawg Bob2 yea it would be counter productive to make him play below his normal weight and just let him grow into ILB

  8. Bulldawg Bob2

RumRunnerDoogie Bulldawg Bob2  You can lunge or dive at the finish in track as long as you don’t interfere with another runner. I did it in 300m hurdles a few times because I was about to flat give out at the end.

  9. RumRunnerDoogie

Bulldawg Bob2 RumRunnerDoogie yea watched that, didnt think they were allowed to dive the line

  10. Bulldawg Bob2

RumRunnerDoogie  I was about to say UGA’s Shaunae Miller won gold in women’s 400m, but she runs for Bahama.

bahits RumRunnerDoogie Bulldawg Bob2 I learned a long time ago its not a good idea to punch people who are bigger stronger and faster than you. I would love to say I learned it the first time but sadly I’m a slow learner lol.

  12. Avon Barksdale

Hey Bob, looking forward to the podcast!
Yeah I saw that about Roundtree! Might be a good move for him!

  13. Bulldawg Bob2

Avon Barksdale Hey Avon. Glad you popped in to join us and welcome back from the west coast.

We talk about the inside linebackers on the podcast tonight … I’ll have that up in a little while and will post a link up; but, aye. It is interesting. Coach Smart and Coach Tucker looks like they want Alec Ogletree type inside linebackers in the 225 to 235 lbs range than not only can hit the ball carrier in the gap on running plays but can drop back in coverage on pass plays much like is asked for in a Tampa 2 defense.

Don’t no if you know, but it appears thatRashad Roundtree has been moved to ILB as well as that was the position group and coach he was with today in practice.

Avon Barksdale Saban has made statements recently that defenses need to get faster to cope with spread offenses.  I think Smart will try for a good mix of speed and size, but not too much of either.

  15. RumRunnerDoogie

Avon Barksdale yea that strategy is definitely different from saban, as pretty much all the spread teams smoked bama.  i think reggie carter, smith, and patrick will be the main ILBs

  16. Avon Barksdale

Evening gents! Haven’t commented in awhile – just got back into town late last night after spending a week in Oregon…
I know it’s semi-blasphemous to talk about anything other than the QB battle but who else is a bit intrigued by what seems to be going on at ILB?
I think we all expected Kirby to continue the Bama way of lining up 250 pound guys at ILB but he really seems to be emphasizing speed and coverage! Wonder if he learned that lesson from the NC game against Watson?
Also, I think that shows where he intends to line up Breon Dixon once he’s on campus…

  17. Bulldawg Bob2

Had another great podcast with Murray Poole and we were joined by I’mYourHuckleberry tonight. I’ll post as soon as I get it edited and uploaded to SoundCloud.

  18. WillieWalden

Nothing to do with the kid walking on.. I meant the whole qb situation.. I probably should’ve clarified that

  19. RobDawg

Somebody has to run squad team simulation don’t they? Great way to contribute and be part of the game you love

  20. Greg Poole

PTCDawg  I can’t see why he would be out that long.  Bob posted a shot earlier of him carrying the ball in his left hand today.
