Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

AlphaDawg The are losing subscribers by the boatload as cord-cutting/trimming continues to accelerate. IMHO, only the Big Ten Network and SEC Network will survive in an à la carte environment.

Greg Poole The more “personalized” ESPN becomes the better for all of us. I believe ESPN sees that cable is changing and are working to make things more “a la cart”.

dsw61 Colleague Gordon McGuinness did a good job of making the case for why the Bulldogs should go with the true freshman Eason as their starter this season.
The basics behind his argument are that Eason offers some upside, and we saw some impressive performances by true freshman QBs last season in the form of UCLA’s http://247sports.com/Player/Josh-Rosen-17035 and Washington’s http://247sports.com/Player/Jake-Browning-27886. Perhaps more importantly, Lambert posted just average grades last season outside of an outlier performance against South Carolina that was one of the top-graded outings by a QB all season, and Ramsey has never proven himself to be a successful starting quarterback.

The ACC Network is going to happen – in a year or two:
The Atlantic Coast Conference and ESPN have agreed to a 20-year deal and rights extension through the 2035-36 academic year, sources said.
The ACC also extended its conference grant of rights deal nine years through 2035-36, a source said.
The conference’s grant of rights makes it untenable financially for a school to leave, guaranteeing in the 20 years of the deal that a school’s media rights, including revenue, for all home games would remain with the ACC regardless of the school’s affiliation.

Josh Rosen…STARTED…the first game of the season last year against the Virginia Cavaliers. He completed 28 of 35 pass attempts, threw for 351 yds and three TDs. Eleven different players caught passes; the most completions to any one receiver was 6. I watched the first half of that game last night, and Rosen played a solid game.

converted 1981 AlphaDawg Greg Poole Oh they’re already pointing fingers. UT fan on my Facebook was ripping Bama for not doing anything about the guns and drugs in the car….like BRO you’ve got multiple rape cases and teammates being told to slug other teammates because they’ve “betrayed” the team.

  8. converted 1981

AlphaDawg converted 1981 Greg Poole Weren’t their like 27 cases?  Does this settle them all?  Even if it did where is the Admin and ncaa…..  You think it would be this quiet at UGA?  I hope Not.  Their entire school should be embarrassed.  Instead they will be gloating with every win and all those that offended will be upheld as heroes.

  9. AlphaDawg

converted 1981 Greg Poole Sadly, the victims gave in with the money offer. Or at least from my understanding were only looking for money.

  10. converted 1981

Greg Poole Yea but where is the ncaa and the Administration for GUTville?   You would Think this would be costing some people their jobs but Noooooo.  Win and we will pay our way out of ANYTHING – regardless of how many of our Young Women are Raped and Abused!  Where is the Press Screaming for heads?  This is just plain disgusting and I have a Very good friend whose Daughter goes there.

  11. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole whatever keeps their sleazy coach there and makes all that go away. That AD is really sticking his neck out for Jones to go 9-4. He better hope he wins the East this year

  12. converted 1981

Greg Poole converted 1981 No doubt there he is the best SEC QB – “as of now”!

  13. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole converted 1981 Reminds me of a Dobbs but with a much better arm. Can scramble very well.

  14. Greg Poole

converted 1981 Treadwell and several other key pieces are gone. Well, see how they do but Kelly is good.

  15. Greg Poole

DawgLink  I haven’t been able to reach Bob for about 2 weeks. Maybe, they are vacationing – will try today.

  16. DawgLink

Greg what’s the latest word on Mrs. BB2?
Hope she is getting better and stronger daily

  17. converted 1981

    Greg Poole
sounds about right for Georgia.  However I was Not aware that (according to this writer) that Florida is so Loaded on Offense – especially at QB.  Time will tell.

  18. converted 1981

Greg Poole OK…. I like it.  Didn’t they lose most of their O Line?  We have an excellent backfield and I believe we will be able to put plenty of pressure on the QB with the speed we have on the ends.  What does their RB depth look like?  Trent will be a Beast in the middle if we can hold each side of him we should be able to get pressure most of the day.  He will make his throws but we just have to limit those.  Also isn’t Treadwell Gone….
Hate to do it but gotta give the geyturd fans their due here, they keep the noise and intensity up.

Greg Poole It’s like CKS said, it is about these kids learning a life lesson after they mess up, not just receive a slap on the wrist and just add to their feeling of being privileged.

  20. DawgDaddy

Greg Poole I hope he is fully ready for UNC.  I know he will be mentally but I worry about him being physically ready after the surgery.

  21. DawgDaddy

Greg Poole I think that is pretty much what everyone thinks.  Still hoping to see lots of skinny against UNC.

I would have leaned toward Georgia in the East if the Bulldogs had an established quarterback. But, the way I see it, UGA will have no choice but to throw incoming freshman Jacob Eason off the deep end right from the start. It is not impossible for a true freshman quarterback to win in the SEC but it certainly makes things tougher and the entire offense will be adjusting to a new coordinator. Eason gets the benefit of the return of one of the top two running backs in college football with Nick Chubb. Before his injury Chubb was all but unstoppable and it is likely that UGA would have won the East last year if Chubb had not been lost for the season in the Tennessee game. Terry Godwin and Isaiah McKenzie are bigtime playmakers. On defense Georgia returns six starters but only two from the front seven. New head coach Kirby Smart has coached defense under Saban for eight years. While he has holes to fill on the front seven Smart does have the luxury of returning his entire defensive backfield. Dominick Sanders is a leader at safety but this is a defense not really loaded with star power like Florida and Tennessee. Bulldog fans are counting on Kirby Smart to make up the difference. I think Smart will be successful at Georgia but I am just not sure he has all the pieces in place in 2016. Georgia wins the East if Jacob Eason performs beyond his years, Chubb stays healthy and the team overall meshes quickly with the new staff.http://coosavalleynews.com/2016/07/the-sec-east-2016-madd-man-mark-miller/

“I think Nick Chubb’s going to be fine,” Smart said. “But I won’t know that until the first scrimmage. Or the second scrimmage. When we get to go live and tackle and hit and he gets over that mental aspect of taking that first hit.”
Chubb’s progress has astounded coaches and players alike, with Smart stating during the spring that the Cedartown native was ahead of schedule with his recovery.
Having torn three ligaments and damaged cartilage, Chubb’s been able to rehab quicker than perhaps even Smart expected.
“There’s nobody in the country who could be back as fast as he is right now,” Smart said. “And he’s sped up the progress by his effort and toughness.”
