Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

Frankly dsw61 You get what you coach. For years thw stae was domomated by running offemses, but now there are lpts of variations of pass happy heme that peoduce qbs

All of a sudden, this state is turning out elite QB’s like weeds.  Isn’t there another highly thought of QB (already) in that class?

  3. Bulldawg36

Didn’t say they would be champions. Lol. Just might have a winning record year tho.

I think you are right. CMR ran a squeaky clean program. I think CKS will run a clean program but will not be as strict with punishment issues. It stinks when several top tier players are suspended and chances for that W are greatly diminished

Bulldawg36  They couldn’t get worse, so there was really only 1 way for them to go  I think they’re a lot further than 2 years out because when you rebuild, you do it with good young pitchers (remember that Smoltz, Glavine, Avery, etc. got rocked their first 2 or 3 years in the bigs before they turned the corner) and I’m just not aware that we have a bunch of young pitching studs in our farm system.

  6. DawgLink

Agreed Bansai. They will not compete for a division championship or wild cart next season

Bulldawg36  Well UGA has really only targeted 1 DL for 2017 so apparently, the coaches aren’t that concerned with our depth on a longer-term basis, but agree with you for the UNC game.  Although, if the charges against Ledbetter are completely dropped (so that there is no arrest) and the charges against Rochester and Clay are greatly diminished, it’s going to be interesting to see how CKS deals with those matters.  CMR would have kept them suspended regardless, but I’d be willing to bet that CKS plays the hand of cards that he’s dealt a bit differently, particularly in his first game as a HC when he’s trying to unify the Dawg nation.

My neighbor a big baseball/Braves fan says 2 years…..rebuilding their farm system. We shall see.

@jaxdawg….what’s funny is that he said his Georgia visit made him forget about Bama and then a few days later commits to Michigan…….what’s that all about…smh

DawgDaddy 1mandawgpack  If my memory is correct, he’s the young man whose Mom was so impressed by the UGA coaches birthday wishes that the AJC wrote a really nice article about it.  If that’s the case, Solomon and his Mom are super tight and I just don’t see him moving that far away from him so that she never gets to see him play.  Plus, that part of Georgia is huge UGA country, so he’ll hear about his commitment to Michigan on a daily basis.  With this staff, we’re never out of contention.

  11. Bulldawg36

Yeah we still have a good DL right now. Just a lil banged up and some suspended for the blue heels. More worried about depth.

  12. 1mandawgpack

Bulldawg36  And instead we have Trent, Rochester, Carter (the incoming freshman, not LoCar), Atkins, Ledbetter, etc.  We’ll be fine, albeit young.  Plus, I still think Soloman decommits as NSD is a long time from now and as he’s a Mama’s boy and I just don’t see him going that far from home.  With this current staff, we’re never completely out of the picture until the NLI is signed and faxed in as should have been evident this past NSD.

  13. Bulldawg36

Just think- we could have Trent..Rochester..brown and Solomon on our DL in 2017. That’s a championship DL right there. Oh wel, hopefully the number one DL in 2018 will pick the dawgs

DawgByte I don’t thnk there is a trend- just individuals. Can’t see any reason to,be concerned with Kistby’s recruiting effort.

  15. DawgByte

Not sure what’s going on with the DL recruiting, but the past two years we’ve lost out on our state’s #1 DL to other schools. There’s no reason for Solomon to go freeze his ruckus off in Mich., when he can star at his home stat university. This is not a good trend!

dsw61 DawgByte Leatherwood is one of the more impressive lineman I watched. Donaldson is a load. Would love to have either one of those guys.

  17. dsw61

DawgByte Obinna is one intense dude and has some loooooong arms. He hasn’t been playing football for very long and is still able to hold his own in some of these 1-on-1s.

CoreyDawg34 Yeah, I noticed that. Their fans are all excited about moving up to #7 in the 247sports ranking. A lot of their fans don’t seem to sweat the details of how the rankings work…and the ones that do get shouted down. They have 17 commits. Compare that to every team ahead of them:
    OSU – 13
    Bama – 14
    Oklahoma – 15
    Michigan – 15
    Georgia – 11
    FSU – 10

Of course they are only looking at whose in front of them. If they were to look over their shoulder they would find:
LSU – 12  (Less than 3 pts behind)
    Notre Dame – 12  (5 pts behind)
    Clemson – 10  (14 pts behind…but 7 fewer recruits)

Tennessee fans seem to think that Butch is better at evaluating talent than other college coaches…and that he and his staff can coach up 3* players to compete against other teams loading up on 5* and 4*. I think it’s pretty clear that Butch is trying to change the narrative about their recruiting for this cycle. He’s trying to create the perception of momentum, and make it look like kids are flocking to Tennessee. It will be interesting to see if it works.
