bahits LOL! Aye. You and me both.
Murray and I were talking about that last night before and after the podcast. While we know its our job to talk about the QB battle and fall camp, but it feels like we are beating a dead horse after the first week or two.
I’m ready to see Chubb run the ball, and the TEs to drag some opponents in powder puff blue down the field about 15 to 20 yards after the catch.

bahits  Chaney’s game plan may be similar no matter who starts.  They all have questions and we know our RB’s are pretty good, if healthy.  Maybe Kirby is keeping this secret to prevent second guessing, criticism or pressure on the starter.

Bulldawg Bob2 bahits A bigger advantage might have been to slip Chubb and Sony into practice after the media viewing time or, had them on the sideline in full casts that could be removed after the camera eyes were ushered away.

I see your point.  I am just ready for the game to start.

  4. Bulldawg Bob2

bahits If you were a new head coach of a major FBS program, wouldn’t you want to go into the opening game with every advantage you can muster? Would you not want to make it as difficult for your opponent to prepare for you?

Regardless of how much of an advantage it is, the point is deny the opponent as much as possible and give your team the best chance to win.

  5. bahits

Bulldawg Bob2 What is it for them to game plan?  Eason and Ramsey are more mobile and have rocket arms.  Lambert is less likely to throw a pick and might not get as confused by defensive trickery.

I really don’t know what the advantage is for UNC.

  6. DawgDaddy

Bulldawg Bob2 Those big linemen and CSP filled up the screen when they came into the frame.

  7. Bulldawg Bob2

    Good news from practice:
D-lineman John Atkins(97) was back at practice again and looked to be participating with no limitations. He did have a knee brace on the knee he hyper-extended during the first week of fall camp.
RB Elijah Holyfield(13) was at practice with no walking boot, but on the side on the stationary bike.
QB rotation was changed up, but I expect that is going to be the way it is the next two weeks. Coach Smart is not going to give UNC anything they can use from the media to game plan for.

Bulldawg Bob2 My English professor would use his case as Shakespearean example of a tragedy.    He had everything and then brought this all on himself.

The argument could be made that avoiding turnovers IS playing to win because turnover margin has a pretty good correlation to W’s.

Greg Poole  Greg, I agree with you about his ego, but his article did have some very pertinent points. If only he had phrased it as you suggested!

  11. ed603

Avon Barksdale  I tend to agree with you. My point in agreeing has to do with the types of quarterbacks Nick Saban won 4 nattys with. One or 2 were Lambert clones! There is a valid argument with the point of “not losing the game” when evaluating QBs. Especially if you have a reasonable defense, and a stable of elite running backs and tight ends. There is also a huge difference in a QB with 4 years of football experience, vs a freshman with none! I point out Stafford, who had a lot of mistakes under his belt until halfway through his freshman year!
I think our Mr Eason will become a great QB, if given the time to mature. How much time is that? If I knew the answer, I would be coaching somewhere, but I’m convinced it will work out well for us. It just may be smart to let Lambert transition to Eason for the first couple of games.

converted 1981 RumRunnerDoogie Bulldawg Bob2  That is not the total number of returning starting seniors for each team but the number of seniors expected to be invited to the Senior Bowl at season’s end.

  13. Bulldawg Bob2

bahits @haws1178  Unless Eason or Lambert get hurt, I don’t see Ramsey being in the mix at this point and time. He didn’t beat out Mason in 2014 and he didn’t beat out Lambert or Bauta last year. Nothing against the young man, and God knows he is gifted athletically; however, he just hasn’t been able to take hold of those reigns and win the job.

  14. Avon Barksdale

Yeah there’s definitely much more to it than turnovers!
I think we’re all ready to explode if Eason jogs out there the first series, I just have a feeling he and Lambert will rotate at least game one…

  15. bahits

converted 1981 RumRunnerDoogie Bulldawg Bob2 imho, their only significant advantage is QB.   I can’t wait to see how this will all turn out.

  16. converted 1981

RumRunnerDoogie Bulldawg Bob2 Wait a minute… Tenn only has 4.  I thought everyone was talking about how Top Heavy they are with Upper Class-men and it better be now or never for butchy boy.

  17. MMCSDAWG

    Avon Barksdale Excellent points Avon!

I didn’t mean to imply that a turnover on downs was exactly the same as a fumble or interception type turnover, but simply that “Turnovers” should not be the only justification one has for choosing one over the other…  and there a lot of folks (not here) that only talk about minimizing turnovers when justifying one over the other.  Again, great points!

  18. bahits

I am worn out with the should Eason start articles.   I don’t see how it would hurt him or the Dawgs to start him and have a limited package of throws.  You know UNC will be looking for that opening roll out and dump off like was done for his opening throw in Spring to Douglas, but I don’t think they can stop it.

It looks like Chubb is ready to go and the other RBs are biting at the bone to get carries.  Roll the dice.  If not him, then please let it be Ramsey just because I think a college QB should have some mobility.  Both he and Eason seem to be able to run enough to cause the defense problems.

  19. AlphaDawg

MMCSDAWG Thank you for pointing out the 3rd down issue. It’s a HUGE problem. And why do some of these people think you should play to no lose. “YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!”

  20. Bulldawg Bob2

We’ll have pictures in a little bit and anything from the post-practice presser.
Michael has classes today so no reports from the Pope.

  21. Avon Barksdale

You make a good point but I don’t totally agree with you 100%. Like you I don’t really have a dog in the fight, I’ll root for whoever we’ve got out there.
I think the problem with all these discussions is that they’re all theoretical and vague. We all know the reasons for not starting a true freshman – turnovers, making the wrong read, inexperience, etc but the problem is we say things like “well if Eason isn’t quite ready by game one, let him get the experience” or “give him a game or two to acclimate” or “he may throw a few more INTs the first few games” but the problem is: what exactly are we talking about? Is he mostly comfortable out there or is he coughing the ball up repeatedly? Is he making the right read most of the time or is he just winging it? Can the coaches trust him? I just remember Stafford throwing about 3 picks a game for the first half of his freshman year. Not saying that will definately happen with Eason but it certainly may.
While I agree that turnover on downs are turnovers I just don’t see them as equal with interceptions. Punting the ball away is nowhere near as demoralizing as a pick or a pick 6. That said, I agree it’s about much more than just turnovers.
I agree that Lambert isn’t going to rocket us downfield but I also think he was placed in a lose-lose last year. With an improved o-line, Chubb, and hopefully the use of our tight ends, I think he’ll look much better this season.
That said, it all depends on the threshold for Eason. How “close to ready” does he need to be for Kirby/Chaney to take that chance?

  22. DawgLink

My first question to Chip would be… “And how many games have you coached?” Okay shut up until I ask your opinion
