Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

Greg Poole You mean, who will all the NFL teams except the Atlanta Falcons be looking at to actually draft.  Right?

  2. Greg Poole

MMCSDAWG My guess is that, if asked, he would point to Texas high school football as the reason that he rates Stafford’s readiness higher.

Greg Poole Greg, n behalf of everyone just want to say thanks for finding stuff like this and posting it for us. I know a lot of us dont have time to be scouring other resources but we find time to come here, and this is just one of the reasons why. in other words…UDAMAN!

Greg Poole The article was alright, but there was one particular sentence i totally disagree with.

“Stafford was much more equipped to play in the SEC right away than Eason is currently.”

He doesn’t attempt to justify this claim at all and for me he is absolutely wrong.  The level of football acumen that Eason has and the work ethic he has shown in HS and so far at UGA is way beyond what Stafford had.  The technology available to Eason for evaluating game film and the ability to break down plays is miles ahead of what was available to Stafford in 2005/06.  The ability to diagnose defenses through the use of technology and sight recognition is 10 times better today than in Stafford’s days.  The only advantage I would give Stafford over Eason was the level of competition he faced in Texas vice Eason in Washington.  But even that, didn’t prepare Stafford for the SEC.

Greg Poole NOPE! No thanks. But that’s fairly cheap compared to what those courtside seats for the NBA finals went for.

AlphaDawg DawgByte MMCSDAWG I can understand that!   I work and am surrounded by so many Gaturds, I can’t help but have them #1 always!

  7. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole MMCSDAWG    AGREE!   He will not stay long if he feels there is a chance of regression.  Go out on the summit for sure!

DawgByte ZippyMorocco A couple of weeks ago someone from “Four Roses” was being interviewed on the radio about their whisky. He mentioned that they had a special batch coming out that would hit the Atlanta market mid June. Stop at a beverage store on Friday and they had some…and were giving free tastings. I look at the bottle and it is 120 proof. The sales lady says it’s really smooth and doesn’t burn. So my wife and I each have a tiny sip. Geez…couldn’t wait to get to the car to drink some water. Definitely going to pass on buying that stuff.

DawgByte MMCSDAWG UT is my #1. My family is split 50/50 since I’m from the Chattanooga area. I like seeing them depressed.

MMCSDAWG Systems that involve humans function better or worse depending on the quality of the people involved.  The Saban System is an attempt to minimize the effect of personnel changes by simplifying the machine and giving constant attention to the tiniest details. But Saban is relying on others to inspect and repair things at the micro level.
Nothing lasts forever. He should quit while at the summit.

Greg Poole They might not be serving it, but it’s being consumed. A lot actually. I don’t think it will be changed much. People will still bring in what they can and buy what they cannot. The people who would not handle alcohol and a losing team are the same people who already bring their own anyways.

  12. BahitsDawg

    DawgByte Greg Poole shivers….
I hope we never see that confusion in Red & Black again.   shivers again

  13. DawgByte

Greg Poole DawgByte I suspect a lack of production over the previous is one way to measure. For example, on defense if the players look confused, get onto the field late, line up incorrectly or generally look like a Grantham Defense then you’d know the staff change is having a negative impact.

  14. Greg Poole

DawgByte How would one recognize a ‘negative effect’? 10 wins the season after Smart and Company leave?
Certainly, they will not fall apart. I guess my question is, will they be unchanged?

  15. BahitsDawg

MMCSDAWG Greg Poole 1). It might cut down on the really waisted because fewer will feel the need to sneak alcohol in.  (100% hard stuff vs. beer or wine)
2). the beer buyers that will spend enough at $6.00 per 16oz are not going to be a majority
    3). UGA makes cash

  16. Greg Poole

ronaldo77 If if it is all about recruiting, it doesn’t matter who his coordinators are – right?  Not trying to be difficult, just wondering what the recruiting to coaching ratio is for championship success.
That ATD (attention to detail) is, I believe, a big part of the formula.
Losing a long-time aide like CKS is going to be a factor over time. The greater his success at UGA the more impact on Bama, IMHO

  17. MMCSDAWG

DawgByte MMCSDAWG Lucas Rogers Real Nice!  Beal, Carter and Lawrence would be a HUGE( yuge) month!

  18. DawgByte

MMCSDAWG Lucas Rogers That would be nice, especially if three of them are Beal, Carter and Lawrence.

  19. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole The one fault I see in the CBS article is they keep referencing that the majority of people attending these events will be under 21 years of age.  I don’t believe that to be the case in either the CWS or any given Saturday on a major college football campus.  The student body does not make up more that 15-20% of the 93K in the stadium for a big game.

Personally I would rather UGA not wait and try and be a tag a longer, make a decision and lead for a change! Don’t back your way into anything.  If this is the direction we want to go, make the decision and defend it.

  20. DawgByte

Greg Poole I had a lengthy conversation with a Bama fan recently. Bottom line, they’re LOADED with talent. I doubt the staff turnover will have a negative impact.

  21. ronaldo77

Greg Poole As long as Saban is there, and they keep winning, I dont see much changing with recruiting. All he needs to do is show him his rings and show him the past first round picks. Maybe Kiffin takes a HC job next year, Saban blows the next Off Cord hire, which starts their dip in form…

  22. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole   I know.  There are a lot of prognosticators that are using that as a cautious handicap for Alabama this year.  Most always end with some caveat about Saban and his system though!  It will be interesting to see how they perform as a group this season, we know they have talent and depth, but how well will they react when things get tough at some point.

  23. Greg Poole

Bama had a huge (yuge) turnover on their staff this off-season. It will be interesting to see how much – if any – effect it has on the team.

  24. MMCSDAWG

BahitsDawg MMCSDAWG They haven’t posted anything like that yet…  but the MMCS line has UGA(-2.5) against Alabama in the Dome!!!

  25. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole MMCSDAWG I know..  I just thought it was a nice event that they supported that same day back home for the “Extra Special People” inc group!  I love our involvement with all these types of organizations.  There is absolutely nothing more special that giving back to those less fortunate!

  26. RumRunnerDoogie

DawgByte MMCSDAWG they could lose every game and beat florida and i would still be happy
