Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

AlphaDawg 1mandawgpack  It’s called the value/love of the almighty dollar.  Nike could, for example, introduce a “special” uniform to try to increase jersey/apparel sales as the belief is that die-hard fans will buy both the special and regular jersey/apparel.  However, given the backlash from the “special” uniforms that were worn against Boise State and Florida, I would imagine that Nike now knows the wishes of the majority of the UGA fan base.  That said, when Nike is paying the amount of money that it is to be the uniform sponsor, they have ultimate say in what the team wears.

When we lived in London, the Premier League teams always introduced a “third” jersey during the year to try to drive jersey sales, and it’s just part of the sponsorship world that we now live in as these sponsors are ultimately in business to make money.

BenKellam BahitsDawg Greg Poole They haven’t shown the ability to stop the run and have to replace two senior LB’s.  I like our chances of controlling the clock and field position, but time will only tell!

  3. BahitsDawg

Greg Poole Only if our D can stop them.  That game was still too close.  You figure you get that many rushing yards it is a blow out, but the score was 49-38

I am talking myself into nervousness, again.

It will take more than one story to make me believe that a leopard can change it’s spots

1mandawgpack Nice insider information! I hope we do have the red vs blue. That would look awesome! I don’t see why Nike would care, but I guess they might. And if G-day was any indication about the fan base’s excitement, we should be dominating the seating.

1mandawgpack Thanks for the info 1MDP!   Can’t wait for this game to get here.  I really wanna see what we got!

  7. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole Me too, although it would be easy to go to the game here in my home town, I would much rather play in a more prestigious and important bowl game!

I posted this last night, but thought I’d repeat for the morning crew.  I have a buddy who works for the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl, which also manages the kick-off classic.  For the game, UGA will be the visiting team and will be seated in the “visiting” stands in the Ga. Dome.  That said, I expect a huge UGA crowd, so while UNC might have pre-arranged seating on the home side of the stadium, I fully expect that the vast majority of the Ga. Dome will be filled with UGA fans.

He also said that, unless the apparel sponsor(s) start meddling in the decision, both teams will likely wear their home uniforms during the game given the stark contrast in color schemes.  He said that this is always subject to change as Auburn had agreed to a similar structure when they played several years ago, but that Under Armour got involved and required Auburn to wear all white during the game.  Anyway, just a couple of tidbits for your consideration during this slow period.

Greg Poole BahitsDawg AlphaDawg With snarky click bait tag lines as well!  I enjoy reading a wide variety of dawg news, but my BS meter is on high alert when it involves the AJC.

Spent some time last night watching highlight film of Brees, Bray, Allen and Peterman. IMO, Ramsey is athletically the type QB Chaney has had success with. It wouldn’t surprise me if Ramsey moves ahead of Lambert on the depth chart. Don’t know if Chaney can pull Ramsey out of his shell though…maybe three times is a charm. Ramsey is also probably the best at selling the play action, which Chaney uses a a lot. It will be interesting to see how quickly Eason can get comfortable taking snaps from under center and selling the play action. Save this link of Peterman’s highlights from last season and watch them at your leisure…20 minutes long. Note the mobility. Brees and Allen were also mobile. Bray not so much…but not bad. Chaney tells his QBs that 60% of throws are movement throws. He likes mobile QBs. That will likely hurt Lambert. I’ve coahced kids enough to understand how they think when placed in a competitive environment. The differene between…”stand in the pocket and trust your protection”…and “60% of your throws are movement throws”…is night and day. IMO Chaney’s approach will yield better results.

BahitsDawg  When one has a site named DawgNation, one would be wise to break those perceptions. But AlphaDawg  is right below, give something juicy and they will revert to snitching.

PatriotVeteran DawgLink Signing day isn’t until February. He has like 8 months to decide. It’s not like we aren’t going to take his commitment then if he wants to wait.

  13. JaxDawg

I really want Akers instead of Carter, he’s in the top 3 guys I want in this class but it seems like that’s long gone and he’s off to Ohio state or ole miss

  14. PatriotVeteran

DawgLink His decision and waiting too long – will be his loss.    He can play anywhere and be great, but you only get to play for 1 team in college and if he wants to play for UGA, he better make a decision ASAP or be ready to know his decision will haunt him for years.     Stick with the Dawgs..

BahitsDawg Just wait until Smart gives them something juicy. It wont be all rainbows and marshmallows

    Basketball recruiting is a cesspool:
Jackson, a native of Detroit, plays for Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif. If you live in that area and have never met a Prolific Prep alum, there is a reason: It was formed in 2014 by Jeremy Russotti, a top basketball skills trainer who is based in northern California, at the suggestion of Jackson’s mother, Apples Jones. Russotti has built a national power around Jackson, but he has not built an actual school. Prolific Prep has no physical address. Russotti jokes that the school is “a P.O. box and three cellphones.” It exists purely as a basketball superpower. Jackson and his 12 teammates attend classes at Justin Siena, a Catholic school in Napa that costs nearly $19,000 per year. (Jackson received a scholarship through Prolific.)
Ayton’s path to that Napa gym was even stranger. After coming to the U.S. from the Bahamas at age 12, he began his career at Balboa City School in San Diego, an established private school that did not have any athletic programs until it formed a basketball team around Ayton. That shotgun marriage did not last, and now he attends Hillcrest Prep, a Phoenix school that outsources its academics. But Hillcrest’s academic credentials are in question, and several top colleges have backed away from recruiting Ayton. “Right now, it’s Kansas. That’s it,” he told the Louisville Courier-Journal in April. “I’m only seeing Kansas right now. I don’t know [why]. The word is I’m not going to college or something, but I say college is a must.”
In the last decade much has been written about diploma mills: schools that teach nothing, yet graduate their students, many of whom just happen to be elite athletes. Every time one of these schools disappears, another one seems to pop up—NCAA officials describe monitoring them as a game of whack-a-mole. They are struggling to understand why elite athletes with so many options keep choosing schools that could jeopardize their eligibility. In the class of 2017 alone, three of the top 15 players are attending high schools that did not exist five years ago.

MMCSDAWG Greg Poole I am staying in that boat with ya friend! Eason starts! No way we let Lambert have the reins. I believe Ramsey ends up number two.

Like her or not, she was a force in college bball. 64 years old is young. Prayers for her family. I have seen this very disease and it sucks
