Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

BahitsDawg so his dad is indian and mom is black, idk where the white grandmom and aunt come in

Frankly MMCSDAWG Avon Barksdale  RB and OL are IMO the hardest position to predict.   RB’s can look good in HS and can look good in scrimmages, but when the lights come on and the whistle blows you never know which one of those rb’s are going to thrive in a live game situation.  Look at #35 (forgetting name right now) but our resident “G” day warrior that never did anything in a live game.  There is a skill that good/great RB’s have that you can’t teach.  It’s like they have a 360* line of sight that allows them to set up blocks and always move in the right direction.

  3. MMCSDAWG

Bansai buckeroo I hope so!   When does summer practices begin?  I can’t seem to remember the exact date.

    MMCSDAWG Frankly Avon Barksdale
Not that I think he will start but I am very impressed with what I’ve seen of him and think if he develops, he will have just as good a chance as Holyfield.

  5. MMCSDAWG

Frankly JaxDawg Goes back to my mantra back on the old site…   Win, an they will come.  Kirby has definitely changed our recruiting program 10 fold, but the ultimate change will come when we win an SEC title and play in the NC, and hopefully win one!

    MMCSDAWG JaxDawg
Maybe but the vast majority of his stats were in garbage time against weak competition.

As much as I hate to admit it, TOSU’s recruiting is just unreal this year.   They are out “Bama-ing” Bama.

  8. MMCSDAWG

Frankly Avon Barksdale Bold prediction, but who knows!  I think he will be a contributor for sure next year.

  9. AlphaDawg

Avon Barksdale We probably all said the same thing regarding Keith Marshall and look who surprised us…

  10. MMCSDAWG

converted 1981 1mandawgpack Greg Poole I think everyone thought Auburn had a QB last year as well!  Maybe they do, but history doesn’t bode well for them.

  11. AlphaDawg

Avon Barksdale I say Holyfield and we go back to the Moreno and Stafford style of play with heavy throwing

  12. converted 1981

1mandawgpack Greg Poole Don’t they actually have a QB for once.  If so watch out cause they appear to be loaded at a lot of positions.

  13. PTCDawg

Avon Barksdale I am guessing Sony will not turn pro but given the scenario my money would be on Holyfield.

  14. Avon Barksdale

Okay, so just for fun….let’s say we sign Swift and Carter at RB this year. If Chubb and Sony turn pro, who starts game one at tailback in 2017?

  15. MMCSDAWG

    converted 1981 MMCSDAWG AlphaDawg JaxDawg

That would be Lambert and he made the two worst throws in the spring game for sure!  I can only give him credit for ball control based on his starts last season.  His performance in the spring game was not stellar in my opinion.  Which just added fuel to my fire about Eason starting!

  16. converted 1981

MMCSDAWG dsw61 BahitsDawg Greg Poole Crossing pattern to a certain TE spread out to the side.  Who after making the reception levels one of their LB’s and goes on for a nice gain.  Lime up and repeat, totally throw NC into a head spin THEN lower the Chubb BOOM.

  17. converted 1981

MMCSDAWG AlphaDawg JaxDawg Agree with all but ball control.  Who was the Only QB to throw a pick in the spring game.  A ball that with his experience should have never been thrown.  He threw off of his back foot falling backwards to escape the rush – if I remember correctly.

  18. PTCDawg

Reading Hucks write up on DaQuan makes me wonder if there are any high school age kids in the Clegane family. :>)

  19. MMCSDAWG

AlphaDawg MMCSDAWG JaxDawg I’m not going to bash Lambert and I really appreciate everything he has done for UGA since arriving on campus last summer, but there is a definite talent level gap between him and Eason/Ramsey.  He can overcome the difference with Ramsey based on his experience and ball security, but I don’t think his experience and ball security will overcome the gap between him and Eason.  I hope and expect him to be a DGD and help Eason as much as he can.  Break down film of all of our SEC opponents from last year.  That is where Lambert will be a vital member of the Dawgs this year.  Also a reliable and trustworthy back-up in case of injuries.  I could be dead wrong, but I really do expect Eason to start the season against UNC and we will rise and fall on his shoulders this season!

Still can’t believe none of the pundits are writing about the potential for Georgia’s QBs to be more mobile this season under Chaney. It’s probably the biggest thing that was missing in the last two seasons with Mason and Lambert at QB. Murray had it. I’ve always believed that the the QBs that did well under CMR we’re the ones that had enough confidence in themselves to ignore some of what he said. To this day CMR talks about how he didn’t have to tell Murray to do certain things; he just did it. QBs who follow the “stand in the pocket and trust your protection” rule to the extreme; will almost certainly be less productive than the QB who interprets that phraseology as more of a guideline…and doesn’t let it affect his ability to improvise.

DawgLink Yes, it sounds very familiar doesn’t it? Getting ranked super high in preseason with a veteran coach who proved himself before and trying to do it again? Get’s all of the hype from the media and then doesn’t live to expectations.

  22. AlphaDawg

1mandawgpack AlphaDawg I’m not even against an Alt jersey for the game. Just give us the silver britches!!

  23. MMCSDAWG

dsw61 BahitsDawg Greg Poole I waiting patiently to see Eason pull out from under center, stick the ball into Chubbs gut, pull it out, reverse pivot, roll slightly to his left, hit one of two targets, either the TE on a 10-12 yards drag pattern or hopefully the WR wide arse open on a deep  corner pattern.  It’s going to happen and it going to be open!  GATA Dawgs!

  24. dsw61

BahitsDawg Greg Poole One of the senior LBs UNC lost was their leader on defense. He will be hard to replace. LBs are most susceptible to play-action; which is hopefully what we’ll see more of this season.

  25. 1mandawgpack

Greg Poole  I don’t  quite understand the love for LSU at the moment as, unless LSU did some major player development in the offseason, the 1 man show that is Fournette won’t get them to the national title game by himself.

  26. BahitsDawg

1mandawgpack AlphaDawg Nike should do cheerleader outfits.

I imagine a lot of families would get suckered into buying their little girls various Cheer outfits.

  27. dsw61

Greg Poole Well that was a really good read. Hope Chaney knows this stuff. I like Georgia’s TEs in some of these route concepts.
