converted 1981 Yeah, but he is a senior in high school. Thinking was not a skill that I was familiar with at the age – at least, not thinking with the gray matter. 🙂

  2. BahitsDawg

converted 1981 AlphaDawg Greg Poole Avon Barksdale Will he still be a QB after Gus is shown the door at the end of the season?

Maybe, the next guy will use him to catch some footballs.

  3. converted 1981

AlphaDawg Greg Poole Avon Barksdale He needs to STOP and think!  Where is his Future in the NFL?  Probably Not at QB.

  4. converted 1981

Greg Poole Didn’t they leave off his DC guru from last year on that list.  You know the one at South Caka Lacky now…

  5. JaxDawg

Yea I think we need the space for receivers like Holloman, Webb, or possibly that guy from South Carolina

  6. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole Top 10 defense…  Yeah right!  Not happening while he is in Auburn.  No defense will succeed when the offense can’t stay on the field for more than 2 minutes.

If the coaching staff makes decisions based on the reaction of the fan base then we hired the wrong guy.   Needless to say, I seriously doubt that is the case.

  8. AlphaDawg

Greg Poole Avon Barksdale Heard he’s probably going to Auburn as a QB since they lost the A&M kid

Greg Poole Why?    Neither of these QN’s started as true freshman.      Why do we have to compare either against Eason?      Neither were great from their first snap and all we are asking is giving this 6’6 Freshman a chance.     What if he does really well but makes a few mistakes?     Everyone says it’s hard to be a starter as a Freshman, but who knows until the first snaps are made?     Maybe he’ll just throw a couple of long passes and scores fast, than his confidence explodes and he go berserk and throws a few more to a great group of TE’s, WR’s and hand offs to Chubb and other terrific RB’s.       Things could go great from the start and all our talking about who should be QB is solved.

If Eason is sacked several times, get intercepted a couple times and trips from the pressure, than some questions will be answered, until than, give him the benefit of the doubt.       He’s smart and should know the plays by than, he’s tall enough to read the defense against him and he has a pretty darn good group of OL protecting him.        I fell “Positive about his capabilities and talent” and will say right now, if he makes a few mistakes, so what.      Unless he proves himself – from the start – I for one will give him the benefit and opportunity to  kick some butt from the first snap.

IMO the fans want to know – will he throw TD.s or fold.       I’m willing to believe, he’ll open some eyes and throw, throw, throw and hand off when necessary to his FB’s and score, score, score.   Be positive.      Anyone can be negative and say “I told you so” – but Eason will shine from the first snap for getting the opportunity to start.      GO DAWGS …. KICK SOME BUTT.

BahitsDawg MMCSDAWG converted 1981 Greg Poole Pretty sure it was Martinez his first 2 years on campus.

  11. MMCSDAWG

Avon Barksdale Real hard, but it’s been said his mom is pushing him toward Auburn, so I will have to go with Auburn on this one.

  12. Avon Barksdale

Looks like Tray Bishop will be announcing soon. What is your guys’ gut feeling on him? Hard to get a read on the kid…

  13. BahitsDawg

MMCSDAWG converted 1981 Greg Poole Murray couldn’t do anything about that horrible defense.  Was it Grantham or Martinez’s D?

  14. JaxDawg

We have slots for 2 more. Most likely Andrew Thomas and Tony Gray, with Isaiah being a long shot. I’m thinking it will be the first two

Great summary Converted!  I too expect a lot more from Eason as a freshman than Murray or Stafford.  The level to which QB’s, even in HS are more prepared than they were 5-10 years ago is measurable.  These kids have a huge technological advantage even Murray didn’t have.  They play football year around and compete in 7 on 7 during the off season.  Neither Murray or Stafford had this format to compete in.  The 7on7 competitions are more valuable to QB’s than any other position.  It is strictly a passing league and they get to hone their skills against tight coverages against extremely talented defenders that are given a lot latitude with respect to defensive pass interference.   It doesn’t help them with recognizing defenses and/or coverages, but it does allow them to hone their passing skills a lot!

  16. BahitsDawg

godawgs678 A slight turn on your theory.  Bring out Brice or Lambert.  Let the crowd settle down a little.  Bring in big E in the second quarter and listen to the crowd go bananas.

  17. BahitsDawg

Greg Poole Spill the beans!  Who are these “silent” commitments?  Are you now doing strategic announcements like Kirby?

  18. converted 1981

Greg Poole Could actually get 5 plus….  So which are the absolute MUST gets?

Robert Beal, Tray Bishop, Toneil Carter, Nate McBride and Jacoby Stevens for 2017.

    Trevor Lawrence for 2018.

  19. converted 1981

    Greg Poole Lets see here:

MAtthew Staffor – Freshman Season = 9 Wins and 4 Losses (Tenn, Vandy, Geyturds and Kentucky).  7 TD’s and 13 Int’s…  Love Matthew Stafford but hoping for more this year.
Aaron Murray –  Freshman Season = Injured – did Not play = Joe Cox.
Redshirt Freshman year – 6 Wins and 7 Losses (South Cacky Lacky, Hogs, Bullpups, Beefaloe, Geyturds, Barners and UCF) – 24 TD’s and 8 Int’s…  Absolutely Love AM but again hoping for more this year.

So 9 Wins would be somewhat of a disappointment (in all reality)but 6 Wins would be devastating = Recruiting!

Realistically we could/should be around 10 Wins, could do better depending on the NC Game.  Win it and things look good.  Win it Decidedly and all bets are off = Look Out.

  20. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole Cool!   Making the best even better!  Never settle!  Just like Kirby and crew.

  21. MMCSDAWG

Dawgsrulegumpsdrool2 Also remember that Salyer is class of 18′ the other two are 17′

The link below takes you to an excellent article about Saban. Obviously, Smart is not Saban but I can tell you that he possesses that same type of single-mindedness. Every time Kirby talks about facilities (or almost anything else) – thin krecruiting:

” His pathological pursuit of the Process — the single-minded emphasis of preparation above all else — has become the stuff of legend. There are countless tidbits about his maniacal (some might say diabolical) nature in this regard, from the idea that he https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwSaS9geI1U to the notion that some of his assistants http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/11/while_others_have_withered_bui.html. The most telling anecdote: According to http://www.gq.com/story/coach-nick-saban-alabama-maniac, not long after Alabama shut out LSU to win the 2012 national title, the coach received a congratulatory call from one of his golfing buddies. Saban’s response: “That damn game cost me a week of recruiting.”

willypmd Mediocre pretty much describes our QB play all of last season, with the USCe game being the lone exception.  So we have  Mediocre as a known commodity, I believe we have potential for greatness in our rookie, so I’m starting the new kid on the block!

  24. Dawgsrulegumpsdrool2

In theory if Andrew Thomas Jamar salyer and Isiah wilson all want to be dawgs, can we take them all?

  25. Reddawg13

Beep, beep, beep, this is a public service announcement from Reddawg13, “It Damn Sho Can Be Us!” Now back to our regular scheduled programming.

  26. Reddawg13

MMCSDAWG Greg Poole If you know how to hog tie a gator you might be a redneck……. that is also a Bulldog fan!

  27. Reddawg13

    dsw61 godawgs678 He sure doesn’t, heck he doesn’t have the mobility I like either,lol.

  28. dsw61

godawgs678 After watching highlight video of Peterman, Allen, Bray and Brees with Chaney as the OC; I will be surprised if Chaney starts Lambert. Maybe Lambert’s football IQ will win the day again; but he clearly does not have the mobility that Chaney likes in his QBs.

  29. Greg Poole

Just a heads up for the morning crew – we have some exciting stuff coming in July. Some new writers will join BI to add to the good work that Huck is doing. A couple are already committed and we are still talking with a couple of others. It should be fun. Stay tuned.

  30. willypmd

my recollection is that both Murray and Stafford were pretty mediocre at the start and were phenomenal by the end. I am expecting exactly that from Eason
