UGA Recruiting Daily Thread
TODAY’S FEATURED PROSPECT: Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald is a 2019 kicker/punter from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia. He’s 5-11 180 pounds who made 18/25 field goals last year, with a long of 60 yards. Fitzgerald was first team all-state according to the AJC and 1st team all-American according to Max Preps. He visited Georgia last week and participated in Georgia’s Junior Day. Then he visited South Carolina this weekend. His recruiting is wide open, and he is an under-ranked kicker. He doesn’t have a lot of hype surrounding him right now, but as the camp season approaches, it’s only a matter of time before this kid blows up on the recruiting scene.
Interview with Ryan Fitzgerald:
Q: How has the recruiting process been so far?
A: “The recruiting process so far has been fun. I’ve been watching college football since I was little and then to visit these schools and see why they’re having success is pretty cool.”
Q: What do you think about Georgia? Didn’t you recently visit there? How’d that go?
A: “I’ve been to several Georgia games growing up. I visited last weekend for their Jr Day. I spent a lot of time talking with Coach Fountain.”
Q: What does it mean to you to get an offer from Georgia?
A: “To be offered by Georgia means you’re one of the best if not the best at your position.”
Q: How hard are they recruiting you? What are some stuff are they telling you?
A: “Coach Fountain said he will try to come down and watch me during my spring practice. He also invited me back up to watch their spring practice and wants me to come up and kick with him during camp season.”
Q: What do you think of Kirby Smart?
A: “Kirby Smart has the juice and the type of personality that gets you fired up and motivated.”
Q: What are some keys that will go into your decision?
A: “Some keys that will go into my decision will be the coaches I’ll be playing for, the academics, and the proximity to my home. I want to go to a school that my family can come to every home game.”
Q: Any top schools? If so who?
A: “I haven’t really narrowed down my recruitment just yet. For kickers, it’s always a good idea to be open-minded because there aren’t a lot of opportunities for my position.”
