Greg Poole RealtorDawg (aka 10canpirate) Unlike college football, almost all of the top baseball players go right to the minor leagues after HS. However there are plenty of talented players left to field a top college team…but the kids have to be developed quickly. In order to develop a kid quickly, it helps to have a basic understanding of bio-mechanics as it relates to hitting and throwing a baseball. I’ve seen enough video clips of UGA hitters to know for a fact that they do not use their bodies in a way that is needed to create the high level barrel path and weight shift seen in the best MLB hitters. I’m a little reluctant to get into the details on here because it’s a football recruiting site; but maybe I will one of these days and the Mods can move it to the baseball section…or wherever. I actually think Georgia has plenty of talent on their roster right now. They just need to learn how to use their bodies better. It can be done in a matter of a few weeks if you know what you’re doing, have a system, and have done it before. It doesn’t take years.
deltonadawg Unfortunately, the cabinet was bare when CS took over. He will need to totally rebuild the pitching staff in an effort to build depth. Next year, you will see freshman starting on the weekend. You really want to start your freshman during mid week games or RS them if possible.
What’s up folks. I finally get a day off ( kind of)
I want both lol
ZippyMorocco RealtorDawg (aka 10canpirate) Greg Poole Zippy, I agree with your assessment about the stats but we are the 10 seed going into the tournament. We had the toughest schedule in the country this year. We didn’t play a lot of cream puffs early which I give CS credit for scheduling tough teams to get the freshman ready for SEC play. Perno did the same thing.
The measuring stick each year for SEC baseball is where do you finish in the league overall. At least 4 to 6 of the top 12 are going to host a Sub Regional each year. That’s where you want to be. Playing at home in the NCAA tourney is a key factor in getting to the CWS.
Greg Poole RealtorDawg (aka 10canpirate) It depends. Vanderbilt and Florida get top talent to join their program each year. We have seen low first round draft picks go to these schools. If you are a good baseball player, you will look at the money offered and program opportunities amd weigh each before making a decision. “Will I become a better player in three years with a chance to play for a championship and more exposure or do I take the money and ride the bus for a couple of years…”
We have the same problem every school has with the draft, the question then becomes, “Do we sign D1 talent that develop into draft picks or get drafted higher during the three years they are at UGA?” The answer is we will see. Candidly, we have about 7 guys that have upside potential – Sasser, Sullivan, Brown, Talley, Curry, Smith and Tucker. We need to build on this base of talent to determine if we can develop them into a good baseball team. Time will tell. Again, if we keep the pitching together from this signing class, we have a chance.
Brittany Gray is a different type of pitcher. Drop ball is her go to pitch. Hums it around 67-68 mph. Nasty change up about 46-49 mph
That pretty much sounds disgusting to me
Good morning folks from San Fran…..

Morning Lucas
Greg Poole RealtorDawg (aka 10canpirate) I don’t know if this is a CS issue or a UGA issue. Similar to basketball where UGA won’t get involved in the major AAU programs, I’m wondering if for some reason, UGA won’t get involved in the major travel-team programs. East Cobb is loaded with talent, but we don’t seem to get a tremendous amount of talent out of that area in Atlanta. I wonder if UGA coaches are playing on a level playing field from a recruiting perspective if UGA has a policy, either formal or informal, that we won’t get involved with these less formal organizations. The same holds true for women’s softball – the real talent (and bang for your buck from a recruiting standpoint) is on the travel ball circuit and not HS softball. My daughter played a showcase tournament in Alabama last year where most major programs had their head coaches in attendance (including Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama and FSU, just to name a few) and UGA had an assistant coach there. Can’t say I understand it, but similar to football. whoever wins the recruiting war wins the ballgames.
Greg Poole That’s what I remember. 2nd
ZippyMorocco Waycross – Rossville is about a far as you can get.
Greg Poole
Waycross played at Gainesville in the championship game in 1960, then at Rossville in 1961. Top that. 🙂
He has had enough time to put a top 25 team together. GT has a top 25 team almost every year UGA should be much better than we are. Mcgarity needs to get a better baseball coach but I’m not sure he will.
RealtorDawg (aka 10canpirate) Greg Poole
We aren’t #10. We are 12th to last in almost every stat.

RealtorDawg (aka 10canpirate) Interesting – thanks for the input
Nice!
Greg Poole You asked me yesterday how long Strickland will get…I think it all depends on how they play next year. Keep an eye on next month’s draft to see how many of the pitchers get drafted in the top 10 rounds. If we can keep the recruiting class together for next year, we will be better but young. Tyler, Jones, Wrenn and Webber will be early draft picks and may leave. We lose King and Keiboom from the lineup as seniors. We’ve got about 5 pitching spots taking up room on the bench and not contributing so we really need the freshman to come in and contribute right away – especially at catcher.
I think CS really wants to win. There is major talent in the state of GA. We can’t seem to get the highly rated kids that go to other schools to stay home.
He may need to take a serious look at who he has assisting him because we cannot hit the ball on a consistent basis. We are at number 10 in the SEC this year. We finished 13th last year. Improvement – Yes. Can we improve to the middle of the pack next year? Maybe. We will need the freshman to be really good to do it.
I give CS 2 more years to be competitive at the top third in the SEC. Then I think we evaluate the program.
Good morning Dawg nation!!
We lost another legion this week, RIP Guy Clark!!

Bulldawg36 Can’t remember – finsihed 2nd – maybe?
There will be a new issue of Bulldawg Illustrated will hit the street this week. It will be the first issue in the new magazine format. Slick glossy paper and high quality graphics – hopw you like the change.
Greg Poole 1mandawgpack She’s a spinner pitcher (her best pitch is a rise ball), so her fastball isn’t great, but it is good. The main problem with Chelsea is that if an umpire is calling the game who doesn’t call the top of the strike zone (which is where that rise ball typically crosses the plate – bottom of rib cage), then she has to bring the pitch down and that generally results in her getting hit hard (these young ladies don’t miss many pitches in their wheelhouse). That’s what happened to her in the game in Michigan last year in the Super Regional. Michigan was on fire at the plate and they ate her up as the ump wouldn’t give her anything above the belt. When she’s on, she’s tough to hit but UGA really doesn’t have a power pitcher and I don’t quite understand that.
Is that the 7on7 summer drills ?
Did Kirby win or do well?
Bulldawg36 No, it will not. When the camp season starts (in a few days) there will be more news. Players will be starting summer workouts soon too.
I know. I wish I would have already been to a game

IMO…the news won’t really pick up unless we get a commitment today.
1mandawgpack I was watching UGA’s current ace, Chelsea Wilkinson, on Friday. Her fastball was smoking – batters were consistently behind it. Then she would come with an offspeed pitch and have the batters almost falling forward. Fun stuff.
It is a long way, but high school site can be also. When I was a senior in high school we played a semifinal game in Cuthbert – over 200 miles from our east GA home.
Greg Poole Softball is a great sport. Didn’t realize how challenging it is and how good these young ladies are until my daughter started playing. I was warming up a 15 year old travel ball pitcher last summer and realized that a) her ball was humming (around 65 MPH, which is comparable to a 90+ MPH big league pitch given the shorter distance from the mound to the plate) and b) it had a lot of movement. I was praying that the catcher (my daughter) would hurry up and get her gear on so that I could leave with some dignity and all my teeth still in place.
Haven’t heard anything yet. Gonna try to get in touch with Jeremiah in a bit since he visited this weekend
Greg Poole Long way for teams from S. Ga. to go to play. If you asked the majority of folks at TCC, they’d rather play state championship games (football) on HS field of one of two participants than play in the Ga. Dome.
Lucas Rogers Good morning Lucas. Any news today?
This is an unbelievable slow news day but things will pick up this afternoon. I’m looking foreard to shooting the softball game(s).
If you have not seen a college softball game, you should check them out. Games are fast and the girls are deadly serious and play HARD.
Good morning!
