The tenth-ranked UGA softball team (35-8) flexed its muscle over in-state rival Georgia Tech (16-25), finishing off the series sweep and spanking the Jackets with a 15-0 win in five innings on Wednesday.

Bulldogs put up 13 hits against the Yellow Jackets, including four home runs with Tina Iosefa and Alex Hugo adding two each. Iosefa had a career-best seven RBI thanks to a grand slam while Hugo led the team with a 3-for-4 effort.

Chelsea Wilkinson (19-2) and Kylie Bass worked a perfect five innings in the circle. Wilkinson threw the first four frames, striking out seven of the 12 batters faced. Bass finished off the Jackets, striking out one in the last inning.

The Bulldog lead quickly made its way to 4-0 after two innings of action, as a Iosefa three-run home run in the first put Georgia on the board. In the next inning, Katie Browne led off with a double before moving to third on a Lacey Sumerlin sacrifice bunt. Kaylee Puailoa followed with a double off the outfield wall to score Browne.

Georgia punched its second home run of the day in the third, as Hugo sent a two-out no-doubter over the outfield wall. The frame continued, as back-to-back singles from Browne and Sumerlin set up a run for Puailoa to get another RBI double for the 6-0 advantage.

The game broke open in the fifth where Georgia poured in nine runs to seal the 15-0 win. Browne and Sumerlin each had RBI for the first two runs before a bases-loaded walk to Sydni Emanuel and RBI groundout from Cortni Emanuel added two more. The bases worked itself loaded against with a walk to Maeve McGuire for Iosefa to hit her second grand slam of the year. Hugo followed suit a few at-bats later with a solo home run to finish off the offense.

And opponents probably should not give the Ladies any bulletin board material before the game as Tech’s catcher, Kaylee Ellebracht, learned the hard way on Wednesday.
