Gabby Connally of the UGA women’s basketball team discusses the Bulldogs 72-54 win over North Carolina A&T on Wednesday night at Stegeman Coliseum.
On North Carolina A&T’s Defense…
“Especially after coming back out in the third quarter, we looked really sloppy. We should be better coming out of the half and we know that.”
On the turnovers…
“I think they were a very good defensive team. They press and pick up men full court or play a one-two-two press which is something we knew coming into the game. We have to do a better job of handling the pressure and not rushing our offense. We need to execute better.”
On redshirt-junior forward Jenna Staiti…
“I think she is excellent. I am really happy for her because she has really been able to help this team, which I know is something she has not felt like she’s been doing but we have always needed her. I’m glad she’s starting to show everyone what she can do. We see it every day in practice so it’s not a surprise but I’m just really happy for her because I know that is something she has wanted to prove and now she gets to show it. I think she will continue to average double-doubles.”
On taking inside shots…
“I don’t think we were intentionally not taking outside shots. It just kind of happened because they are a really good defensive team and they like to hard deny. We were trying to run a lot of backdoor action to get them out of the hard deny and open a lane for ourselves. I think we did a really good job at running hard and providing our posts with action. We want to reward our posts whenever we can because they do a lot of the dirty work for us.”
