The newly formed UGA Young Alumni Leadership Council brought Bulldogs back together from the Atlanta metro area and the Southeast in their first event held on Friday, June 23rd at the Sweetwater Brewing Company in Atlanta, GA.
Elizabeth Powell, a 2006 UGA Alumna and a member of the Young Alumni Leadership Council, wrote about the inaugural event where approximately 600 attendees came out to celebrate their passion for UGA and connect with fellow grads while partaking of good food and drink, despite the threat of rain and storms. She had a chance to speak with the president of the Leadership Council, TJ Callaway.
“What a turnout…nearly 600 people, even in the pouring rain,” TJ Callaway (BBA ’07), the president of the UGA Young Alumni Leadership Council, said, “It was a great opportunity to bring together UGA alumni for a fun night with a purpose. Events like this are a great reminder of how strong our alumni base is, and how important it is for us to find ways to stay involved and connected with each other in the Atlanta community. Hats off to the UGA Alumni Association staff for all of the work that went into building what has become an annual UGA tradition in Atlanta.”
It will be the first of many that will be planned by the council, which is part of the UGA Alumni Association, to help bring together Bulldogs throughout the year and years to come. The mission of Leadership Council is to provide dynamic opportunities for young alumni to engage with and give back to the University of Georgia.
