Georgia held their annual Pro Day at the new Indoor Athletic Facility on Wednesday. The Bulldogs had 14 players workout. Among them were included three offensive linemen, four linebackers, three secondary players, and two tailbacks with notable players like Reggie Davis, Greg Pyke, Quincy Mauger, and Maurice Smith.

The team hosted various NFL scouts and personnel to witness the workouts of senior football players. All 32 teams had a representative there today along with the BC Lions of the CFL. The Falcons by far had the most in representation with 13 personnel in attendance. General Manager Thomas Dimitroff and head coach Dan Quinn, were two in attendance to watch the players go through their paces. The Indoor Athletic Facility’s atmosphere was all business during the workouts; however, as the drills came to an end, the vibe relaxed. Players smiled and seemed happy the stressful part of performing for the scouts that were ever watchful was over. Even though the workouts were all business and there was the added stress that how they performed could ultimately determine whether or not they have a future in professional football, the players appeared to love the competition of running the drills.

Tyler Catalina, Greg Pyke, and Brandon Kublanow went head-to-head in drills. The three competed and each looked slimmed up and in shape. Catalina and Kublanow each performed snapping drills with a couple of the scouts. Pyke also mentioned to the media that he’d been working on hiking drills the last two months. He said to the press that he expects to move back to guard at the next level. As for Kublanow and Catalina, I didn’t get to speak first hand with them but they both seemed to be pleased with their performances.

Quincy Mauger and Maurice Smith both competed in the workouts as well. The two showed great promise. Mauger appeared satisfied with his performance. He had the best vertical on the day at 37.5″ besting Smith’s 34.5″ The senior safety looked like he put a lot of time in preparing for his pro day, with his body looking like it was in top form. Mauger was also all smiles during interviews and even made a few Gymdogs references, referring to how he had to perform well in all the events for Pro Day.

As for the rest of the players who worked out for the scouts, the day went well. Reggie Davis’s 40 times looked to be blazing fast. He recorded times of 4.25, 4.27 and 4.31 depending on which stopwatch was referenced.

Running back Brendan Douglas also performed well in the 40-yard dash, and he recorded a 35″ vertical on the day. Speaking of verticals, offensive lineman Tyler Catalina recorded a height of 31 inches, lifting his 330 lbs frame just over 2 and half feet off the ground!

When it was all said and done, Georgia seemed to live up to their high standards of getting their players ready for the NFL.

Coach Kirby Smart was also in attendance, making small talk and enjoying the day with former players and NFL personnel. When Smart spoke to the media, he had plenty to say on the day along with updating us on Trent Thompson. He informed us that Thompson could potentially be back in school and for workouts with the team, but it will depend on his rehabbing. As for as how UGA’s Pro Day went, Smart seemed happy with the performance by the seniors. He spoke with the Atlanta Falcons’ Dan Quinn for a while during the morning along with Thomas Dimitroff. Smart also talked about how great it was to be in the indoor facility.

“It’s awesome, isn’t it? I think these guys appreciate it. They’ve been out in the cold weather before when they’ve been here before,” Smart said. “It’s nice to have a place for our seniors to come out and work out like this. It’s kind of what they deserve. It’s nice to have some guys back, Jordan Jenkins, David Andrews … it’s good to see those guys. It’s a nicely done touch.”

Wednesday marked another successful Pro Day for Georgia, and with the draft coming up, it will be interesting to see how and where the players end up.
