College GameDay has not visited Athens, GA since 2013 when the Georgia Bulldogs took on the LSU Tigers in the “Mettenberger vs Murray” showdown.

On Thursday, equipment trucks and semi-trailers started rolling up to Myers Quad on UGA’s South Campus. The crews started to set up for Saturday’s taping of the Emmy winning show, but on Friday fans and the media got to get a glimpse of the set beforehand.

When I arrived, the set took up about three-fourths of the quad, and lots of students were already in line at the gates waiting to reserve a spot for the actual taping.

There were several tents set up for activities, and it appeared there was a cornhole tournament going on. There was also a DJ booth, and next to that was a tent where you could make your own College GameDay sign. One student titled his sign, “Hey mom, I need beer money!”

The atmosphere was very right for what it seems like the most anticipated home game in Sanford Stadium history. There were also a group of ESPN celebrities that were scheduled to meet with the media. Georgia graduates and College GameDay analysts, Maria Taylor and David Pollack, spoke first. Then College GameDay host Reece Davis followed.

It was rumored that WWE sensation Ric Flair was in town, but he was nowhere to be seen on the set. Quavo from the rap group ‘Migos’ was there, and GameDay analyst Lee Corso was seen drinking coffee peacefully up under a tree on campus.

So far, the buzz in Athens is very much alive, and the stage is set. Georgia takes on Notre Dame at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Here are the interviews from today:
