ATHENS, Ga. – A total of five Georgia volleyball student-athletes will attend the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team open tryout this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Majesti Bass, T’ara Ceasar, Meghan Donovan, Katie Houser, and Rachel Ritchie will be representing Georgia at the tryout which begins Friday and runs through Sunday.
This will be Bass and Donovan’s second trip to Colorado Springs for open tryouts. The pair attended the event a year ago.
“We’re excited to have our student-athletes participate and compete in the U.S. National Team open tryout,” said head coach Tom Black. “It’s always a good experience to get so many competitive reps with and against other collegiate players. We’re always looking for every opportunity possible to get better and this weekend will serve as a good one.”
A total of 234 athletes from 89 colleges will be trying out for a spot on the U.S. Women’s National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Team programs. The breakdown by position includes: 48 liberos, 50 middles, 62 outsides, 31 opposites, and 43 setters.
Each athlete will have one tryout session on Friday, one morning and afternoon session on Saturday, and one morning session on Sunday. Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women’s National Team staff will lead the tryout process.
