The Georgia women’s volleyball team took on South Carolina on Friday night in Columbia, SC and played a titanic back and forth match that found both teams tied at 2 heading into the fifth set. The Dawgs were down 12-7 in the fifth set and it looked like the Gamecocks may pull out the win. However, Georgia was able to rally back and defeat the South Carolina 15-13 to take the fifth set, winning the match 3-2.

UGA (9-3, 1-0) widens its winning streak to six-straight matches with the victory over South Carolina (8-5, 0-1).  

“That game was a war, lots of deuce point games. We were down a bunch, including in the sets we won. I was really, really proud of how the girls competed and how much poise they showed and toughness,” said Head Coach Tom Black. “There was some good volleyball, but there was lots of volleyball that wasn’t so good, but we didn’t let that carry into the next point too much. Really proud of the response in a really hostile environment; it shows that we’re growing and getting more mature.” 

Up next for the UGA women’s volleyball team is another SEC match on the road at #12 Florida. The first serve against the Gators is set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET in Gainesville. 

Coach Tom Black commented on the Bulldogs upcoming match with Florida: “It’s a big test after big test after big test. We’ll enjoy this, regroup, and respond.”
