Sarah Ashlee Barker, a freshman guard on the Georgia Lady Bulldogs basketball team, has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

It marks the second SEC Freshman of the Week honor this season for the Birmingham, Ala., native. Barker is Georgia’s first two-time honoree since all-conference performer Caliya Robinson earned the distinction on three occasions in 2016.

“SA works hard each and every day,” head coach Joni Taylor said. “The way she responded after the Tennessee game going into Ole Miss really speaks to who she is as a player and a person. SA is special and I am so excited about her future here at Georgia.”

Barker played one of the best games of her young career during Sunday’s win against Ole Miss. She knocked in a trio of 3-pointers in the second quarter and led the Lady Bulldogs with nine points in that period to give her team a 36-23 halftime lead.

She finished one point off her career high with 11 points off a 4-for-8 shooting performance. It marked Barker’s third game in double figures this season as she helped lead Georgia to its fourth-straight win.

Georgia is off to a 12-1 start and 4-1 record in league play this season. The Lady Bulldogs play at No. 4 South Carolina this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
