Georgia has had a number of freshmen step up and play a major role in the Bulldogs’ success through their first six games so far in this 2019 college football season. Two, in particular, on defense in the linebacking corps, Azeez Ojulari and Nolan Smith.

On Tuesday, Azeez shared his thoughts on his fellow linebacker and teammate, Nolan Smith.

“We’re really close, man,” Ojulari said of Smith. “It’s a brotherhood in our room. We just love each other. We fight for each other and support each other no matter what. We learn things from each other and try to use them in our plays.”

When asked about who he thought Nolan Smith compared to on Tuesday, Kirby Smart stated he wasn’t sure, but did mention that Smith was a good compliment to Azeez.

“…He’s really disruptive. He’s a good compliment to Azeez (Ojulari) because Azeez has been a good run defender for us,” said Kirby. “Nolan’s been a good movement guy. He’s quick. I don’t know who you compare him to.”

Smith, who is from Savannah, GA, signed with the Bulldogs out of IMG Academy in their 2019 recruiting class earlier this year. This season Smith has played in all six of Georgia’s games at outside linebacker and Azeez has started all six. Combined, the two freshmen have 31 quarterback pressures and 5 sacks.

Azeez was part of UGA’s 2018 recruiting class, signing with the Bulldogs out of Marietta High School just down the road in Marietta, GA. He played in three games – Middle Tennesse, Georgia Tech, and the Sugar Bowl versus Texas, for the Dawgs and was able to redshirt last season.

On the goals during the week…
“We have goals for each game and we always want to meet them. Some games we don’t always meet all the goals but we come in to the week and see what we need to fix so we can work on it throughout the week.”

On Kentucky’s variety…
“They have speed, option, quarterback, receivers and players that play at a really elite level. We just have to come to play.”
